[Most of the time, when Spike goes on a walk, he's not really thinking of where he's wandering. It gives him the sense that he's doing something other than sulk (which he doesn't do), and it's usually a good way to clear his head. By all appearances, nothing has really changed since he got freed from the Valentine's curse. He may be looking over his shoulder more often, might stop now and then to watch some passerby, but he doesn't seem to have any more purpose than usual.

Eventually he makes his way to the stables to face the lingering reminders of who was there before. Kaylee's mule is right where he expects it to be, although he can tell it hasn't been driven since she left. She'd probably be upset about that. Spike takes one more look behind him, then gets to work. -- He's not the mechanic Kaylee (or even Jet) is, but when your arsenal is as low as his, it doesn't hurt to see how she's running.

Before he gets started, he takes out the journal, scanning the last few pages for anything out of the ordinary. Maybe he's finally learned his lesson on what happens when he doesn't pay attention. Sure enough, it's full of invasive questions and outright obvious traps. Which is actually kind of ordinary for them.

He sighs.]

Things never change. You must really have to work at it to leave a mark around here. [That could be a slightly pointed statement, but who knows?] Makes you wonder why some things get swept up in a day and others just sit around to gather dust.

Then again, there's always someone taking notes. Gotta love magic. [Spike sets the journal down nearby, but leaves it open for once. He's in a weird mood today.]
