Filtered away from first gens... in fact, locked up pretty decently.

Someone brought some information to my attention and... Well, based on my own experiences I thought it might be helpful to host some kind of monthly meeting for new arrivals, or maybe for people who just want to keep up with current events and situations--when they're not obvious, at least. I'm just trying to gauge interest here. If somebody's already doing this, I'd be willing to help out.

What do you think?

I think I'm heading out for a while. I need some time off from this castle. If you need me, I'll answer messages.

Any way I can get a rifle? I'm feeling a little rusty.

[She sees this and stares at it a while. Then leaves it. Then comes back. Then leaves it again. Then comes back again. Then finally leaves a written note.]

[She's not expecting a reply.]

[For once, she's not getting one. He doesn't know what to say.]

...Huh. And here I just finally decided to come back.

You want to grab that coffee at the hangar before you take off?

Yeah. Honestly need to get some stuff out of my system.

[Which is not normal at all.]

[It's really not, but York understands well enough that sometimes you just need some time alone--or alone with your AI, which counts as the same thing, really.]

Be my pleasure. You can look through the armory there, too, see if there's anything you need.

I'd appreciate the look. actually. You know, I think half my problem is that I haven't had a gun in my hands since I got here.

God damn, everyone else really has been slacking, haven't they? Do you have the coordinates for the hangar? I can meet you soon as you want.

Been a little busy. I have the coordinates, though. I was headed there a while back but I got distracted.

[He sounds amused. Noble Six was a pretty interesting distraction. That whole thing was, uh... interesting.

Not that he has to tell you about the castle, right York?]

Anyway, the sooner I get out of here, the better. I can head there now.

I'll meet you there.

[Not too long after, York is lounging around the main entrance next to a Mongoose. Judging by the tracks in the snow, there's been a lot of traffic in and out of here recently.]

[Give North a bit while he enjoys the snow. But eventually he shows up, armor and all. He waves when he sees York.]

Funny meeting you here.

[York waves back, resisting the urge to run over and hug North. Been way too long, buddy. Instead, he walks up to meet him and gives his shoulder a good clap.]

Sorry I've been out so long, man. Come on in.

[He'll show North the passcode to unlock the door. Inside, there's a short hallway that leads to an open hangar area with several familiar vehicles inside, and the other way leads to a kitchen and some stairs. York shows North the hangar first.]

[North is in a manly hug mood, so have a nice pat on the back, bro.]

It's fine. You need to do what you need to do for yourself, and I understand that. What do you think I'm doing now?

[He memorizes the code quickly, then follows at York's pace, taking in the layout of the structure.]

[Being designed in a very UNSC manner, the hangar is in some ways the most like home of anywhere in this world - especially for someone who's been avoiding his own room because of the memories of Carolina it contains.

He leads North over to the armory and punches in a different code, again waiting to make sure the other Freelancer catches it. He doesn't worry too much about whether North will remember it - Theta will, at any rate.]

You really should. It's a good place to relax - or work on vehicle maintenance, if you like to keep busy. Vehicles are free to check out for use whenever you need one, just be sure no one else has it reserved for that day. Oh, and you have to pass certification to fly the Falcon, since we don't need that crashing.

[Inside the armory is a small but broad variety of UNSC weapons and equipment, including a sniper rifle.]

[Somehow the lockdown is satisfying. While he gets along with everyone well, and he likes people in general, he needs his privacy, too. And this is more like home, absolutely. He's been away from ships and hangars and real missions too long. Even if they were for a questionable cause, they became his life, and he was comfortable enough in it.

Another code to memorize, and a little acknowledgement from Theta on that one. He nods to York.]

Learning to fly and learning to be half a mechanic. Well, if it keeps me off the streets...

[There's a little chuckle, but it's strained.

Still, his posture relaxes slightly when he sees the rifle, and he immediately makes for it. There's a quiet fondness in his tone.]

There we go. Now all I need is a training sim or someone to lob grenades and rockets at me.

Beats paying rent.

[Because really, the fact that he doesn't have to scrape for money or constantly watch his back for the Project is a huge weight off York's shoulders.

It doesn't surprise him at all that North goes for the sniper rifle, though to get a second one he'd have to build it himself or confiscate it from Church (unlikely).]

I am not lobbing grenades at you. But don't tell me no one's told you about the Danger Room yet?

[But... but he wants a rifle! He's earned the rifle! Rifles are great. He'll tolerate life with just one.]

Between you and me, I've been dealing with family issues. So... somebody's mentioned it, but I haven't been there yet.

[York would say that two sniper rifles is cheating - but then, his armor's been a little "upgraded" by one Tony Stark, so.]

Christ. Well, how about we get that coffee and then I take you out there? There's a teleporter up on the roof.

[He'll wait for North to grab ammo from the ammo bank and then lead him over to the kitchen - a fairly small, utilitarian place with quite a few cupboards of nonperishables and a fridge with beer. The freezer is packed with different meats and a few pizzas, though.]

[Two sniper rifles is just the way North likes it. It's relaxing! Now he's got the one, though, and plenty of ammo. And he is in the mood for coffee.

He's awkwardly silent, though.]

Do you mind if I pick your brain about something, while we're here?

Sounds like a damned good idea to me.

I can't take all the credit, but I'm glad someone agrees.

Considering what we learned about them on the trip? I'm sort of surprised this just came up.

Granted, I'm still learning a lot about what's gone on, but there are things we really, really need to be telling people.

I know there are some people who put together lists of past events. Lois Lane, for one.
