So, I heard that Paul Smecker an' Eunice Bloom were here a while, back. My name's Connor MacManus. My brother an' I knew 'em back home. I jus' wanted to introduce myself an' say that I'd like to meet you if you've got th'time.

My brother'n I've been workin' on fixin' up the church down town an it got me thinkin'. This is s'posed t'be February, right? Th'way I figure it, Lent starts today. Does anyone here even celebrate Lent, here? Is anyone givin' anythin' up?

Of sorts, yeah. It's from Ash Wednesday through Easter. 40 days - the time Jesus spent wanderin' in th'desert. He fasted th'whole time, resisting temptation from th'devil. T'show that we don't need everythin' we have in life we give up somethin' fer th'40 days. Some people give up drinkin' or smokin', somthin' like that.

[there's some shuffling as he sets down the trowel he was working with, wipes off his hands, and picks up his journal from where he left it lying open.

in a few moments a quick but neat and well-detailed map shows up on the page, with a clear path from the castle down to the church in town]

[Connor laughs and flicks cement at his brother.]

Aye. Where can we find you? Th'church?

[That earns a small laugh from Caterina. It seems she'll have more jokers in her life.]

Yes, that is where I'll be waiting.

Gah! Ff-- [SHIT, CARDINAL IN EARSHOT, no swearing at the idiot brother. Murphy brushes the cement glob off his coat and flings it back]

We'll be there soon! [he shoves Connor on the shoulder and snickers in Gaelic:] Come on, you idiot.

[Connor cracks up and sets his tools aside, wiping his hands off on a rag and flinging it at Murphy's face before replying in kind:] Who're you callin' an idiot?

[Without waiting for an answer he starts off down the road towards the castle]
