19. If only my life was more like 1983

Today marks one year since I arrived in Paradisa.

I am not quite sure how to feel about it, to be perfectly honest. I suppose I never expected that I would be trapped here for this long, even considering that one year is paltry compared to some of you. I've been taken to so many different times and places, met people from hundreds of years before I was born, from worlds and times where Earth was never left behind... something I would not have thought possible. I've outlasted both of my sister's stays here, and those of two of my friends. I've met two people who look and sound almost identical to people from my world.

I still have things to be thankful for, at least. I appreciate what I have a lot more than I used to.

If I have to stay here another year, here's hoping it is better, at least.

It means a lot. Sometimes I forget what I do have while thinking about what I don't.

I think we're all guilty of that.

It is something I am working on correcting.

Do people usually say congratulations for this kind of thing?

Sometimes. I think it depends on how happy the person is to have reached that milestone. I can't say that my stay here has been entirely bad.

It is one of the few bright spots I feel like I have had lately.

It sounds pretty incredible. Well, it is incredible, really. It's so weird that after all the traveling I've done, the adventure is sort of...coming to me, instead of the other way around. A lot of people never get that lucky. They live in the same town and know the same people their whole life. They never get to know what might be out there for them.

You know, I was the sort of person who never left my home planet until much later in life. When you put it that way, I suppose I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel so much... expand my horizons, as it were. One of the good things about having been stuck in Paradisa is that, certainly.

It's good to stay positive. I think the world...no, the universe...is too big to do otherwise.

It certainly is. I've found that I'm from several hundred years into most peoples' futures, and even then, when space travel is as common as walking, people choose to stick to the familiar. I am a doctor, and when I began to travel, I realized that my skills could be put to much better use treating people who needed it but might otherwise never see someone like me.
