seventh.

[Connor is sitting on the castle lawn surrounded by pumpkins. Just an enormous pile of pumpkins. Were they already here and he just decided to sit down amongst them? Did he pile them up himself? It's an utter mystery.

He doesn't seem to be bothered by it though, and is just speaking into his journal.]

During this time of year, my people hold a festival celebrating the close of our harvest season. I suppose that does not matter much here, where people rely on the god of this place to provide them with food, but it is important nonetheless. I do not know much about anyone else's culture here... is there something you usually celebrate around this time?

Also: I did not ask your name, but if you are the young woman who showed interest in a war club, I have been working on a second since my return from Fairfield and I am nearly done with it.

[There's a pause, and his already polite tone drops to something even gentler.]

I am also sorry to anyone who has felt loss these past weeks, either by the hand of the god of this place or otherwise. I do not know how you grieve, but I hope it mends your hearts.

[Lara had her journal closed all day, so she didn't hear him speak into it. When she walked outside, she immediately noticed the pumpkins on the garden and was sure those weren't there yesterday. Then she noticed someone surrounded by them, and figured he just wished for it. Come to think of it, it's almost Halloween...]

Planning something with these?

[Ezio's been busy these past few weeks, between the Gentleman and caring for Molotov, but things are calming down now. However, as he makes his twice-daily trip to the stables to exercise and care for his horse, he notices his eagle's disappearance more and more. Laying out food hasn't lured it back, nor has looking to the sky every time he sees a bird overhead.

Maybe the bird isn't coming back.

But then, hearing Connor's voice, it suddenly occurs to him that he has seen an eagle since. There was that eagle that Cassandra and Connor were watching, back on the camping trip, the one Ezio had dismissed as a coincidence because his eagle was likely back in the stable by then.

And then it occurs to him that it probably was his eagle.

Ezio loses his temper.

Ten minutes later, he is striding towards Connor and his pumpkin patch. At the edge, he stoops to pick up a large pumpkin by the stem and lift it over his head, which he then throws in Connor's direction.

Barked:]

Boy.

We have Thanksgiving for that, but that's next month. At least in America.

[Aww. Look at this. Stephanie can't help but laugh as she comes over to check out the pumpkins. What a cute kid.]

Is this where all the cool kids hang out now?

Well, I guess you could say a lot of ours are for giving thanks too, but that one is specifically centered around the harvest season.

1998. You?

Isn't a pumpkin a type of squash? [Mostly to herself. She weaves through the punpkins, checking them out. Oh, look. That one is big. So, she heads over to it.]

Anyone tell you about Halloween and what you can do with pumpkins?

A war club?

And everrrr~

[personal profile] lara_the_explorer 2013-10-08 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe to carve them. It's a Halloween tradition where I came from.

Would you prefer that I hit you?

[Ezio continues stalking forward, picking his way through the pumpkins until he's right in Connor's face.]

Did you release my eagle?
whistles_the_blues: (I did.)

[Blues is just passing by when he catches sight of someone just sitting between all those pumpkins.]

...Neat fort.

It's a holiday. Kids dress up and go around asking for candy and stuff. It's a lot of spooky stuff--ghosts, vampires, witches, zombies... things that half the people here would probably find hits too close to home.

[She pats the pumpkin.]

One of the other things that people tend to do, aside from sending their children out onto the street for the night, is carve pumpkins. You hollow it out and put a candle inside. It's messy, but fun.

Wow, yeah, that probably explains why you haven't heard of it. I mean, it supposedly is linked the harvest of our first settlers, but I don't think it was actually made into a holiday until later.

Will you make a third?

It's a holiday in my time, more celebrated in the United States than in my country. They carve pumpkins and put on costumes. It's a holiday meant to remember the dead, but it became so commercialized that nobody cares about paying respects to those who passed away.
