Right, so I guess its been a while since I pulled this journal thing out. You know how it goes. You forget to clean your room and things just disappear.

Where was I? Right. Fake families for Christmas. Was anyone else super weirded out by that? And who is that Uncle Dean guy anyway?

And may I just say that the castle has a very weird sense of humor when it comes to Christmas presents?

But hey! the Christmas misery is over for another year! Now its time for what passes for normal around here.

Speaking of which, anyone else interested in astronomy? I'm thinking of setting my telescope up tonight.

Hello, Danny. What did the castle gift you with? I have to agree with you on its humour I think.

[Did someone say astronomy?] You have a telescope? [Yes, he sounds a little dubious but impressed.] Would you like some help in setting up?

The Fenton Tent. It could be useful, I guess. But still not appreciating the castle's sense of humor.

Yeah, I got one ages ago. The roof is a pretty nice place to set up when the sky is clear. But sure, you can help if you want. Looking at the sky is more fun when you're not alone.

The Fenton Tent? What's that when it is at home, or rather here? Apart from the obvious of it being a tent of course. Yes, the castle's humour is... well, I think it's quite dark to be honest after what I was gifted.

I'd love to come and help, thank you, Danny. Meet you up there? Do you know the aperture of your telescope? I could bring some extra lenses with me.

Did I mention my parents are inventors? Who like naming all their inventions after themselves?

Well, the Fenton Tent is a tent they invented. That exactly like a miniature version of our house. Op Center on the roof and giant glowing Fenton sign included.

What did you get? Or do you not want to say?

80 mm. [Danny rattles the number off easily. He might have been bad at math, but astronomy was his favorite hobby.] Thanks, that would be great!

This Fenton Tent does sound very interesting. I'd like to see it sometime if you'd allow it. [Because to him it sounds as if it may be dimensionally transcendental and he's very interested on how the heck Danny's parents got around that one.]

Oh! No, I don't mind saying at all. I can show you, if you like. It's a crystal that focuses and projects thought. The last one that I had was, well, it was broken. I used the broken piece as a reminder of sorts when I attempted to convene with the castle. Needless to say, the parley didn't go as I'd hoped.

[There's a pleased smile in his voice.] I should have some that size around here. Do you need help taking it up to the roof or can you manage?

No problem. But its just a blow up tent. That looks like my house. [The Fenton Tent was. Now if Five had a look at Danny's thermos he might have some very different questions.]

Huh. Sounds cool.

Nah, I should be good. Ghost powers are kind of really useful for things like that.

Sorry you got sucked into our freak show of a fake family, Casper. I would apologize for Dean, but there's really no getting around the fact that he's a ginormous dou- umm, jerk.

Yeah, I kind of got that part. I met him last Halloween.

You know your journal was probably with you the entire time, right?

[She's teasing, of course. Then her tone softens.]

And to be honest, I kinda liked having a family. [Especially without knowing about the castle.]

But you're going to look at the stars? Just tell me where and when.

I don't know if I liked it. [It had just made him miss his real family more.]

I was thinking tonight?

Really? [Now her voice is concerned.] What happened, Danny?

And just tell me what time tonight and if you need help.

[Or hot chocolate or other nourishment.]

Nothing big. Just castle stuff in general, I guess.

After dark. I'm going to meet some people up on the castle roof.

Right. So, who are you?

I agree! Much happier now that I am completely me again... with no inclination to share my feelings and wear a dress!

Oh, a telescope... I'm certainly of interest there.

...Right. I'm not going to ask.

You know something about astronomy?

[Cue some embarrassed laughter.] I see. Well, I'd still like to see it sometime.

Right. I'l meet you up there then. Say in ten minutes?

Sure thing! I can bring the tent up too to show you. It might be good if it starts raining tonight.

Now that is an excellent idea. I'll see you there.

[With that, there's the soft sound of the journal being closed, and sure enough, just a little longer than ten minutes (it took him a bit to find the spare lenses) he comes through the door to the roof carrying a lacquered box about the size of a shoe box.]

Danny?

[Danny had taken the ghost air shortcut and gotten there early. He'd already gotten the telescope unpacked. The Doctor arrives just as the boy tosses a small flat package emblazoned with a green F logo onto the ground.

And dives for cover as the package rapidly unfolds into a large mechanical airpump and a pile of tent material. Almost instantly the tent inflates and expands to its full size.]

Yeah, I know a bit. Be interesting as well to see what we have in our galactic neighbourhood.

Its pretty cool! None of the stars here are anything like the ones I remember from home.

[If you're seeing someone dive for cover, chances are you need to do the same.

There is no cover. Bugger. The Doctor jumps back through the doorway instead, at least out of range of being squashed by an inflatable and still with an excellent view. And when it's fully up and safe to come back through the door,]

Well, you certainly know how to camp with intent.

[He peers around said tent with a grin. Very impressive. Doing all right there, Danny?

[When he was younger, he had a cheekier response. Dean Winchester, Aquarius; likes sunsets, long walks on the beach and frisky women.

Now, though? He's seen too much for that to warrant more than a shake of his own head. But not all of that cheek is gone.]

Not really your uncle, to start. Name's Dean Winchester. I'm uhhh...mechanic. But I know a little about a lotta things. [Should he tell people he's a hunter? He needs to check if it's come up in the past. For now he'll just allude to it.]

[Oh, Danny... Don't you know that's not going to sate her curiosity for long? But still, she drops it for now.]

Hmmm. I see.

Any idea what time the sun's supposed to go down? That'll give me an idea of how much time I have.
