035 Summons ❈ Action & Text ❈ Backdated to the 13th

[Sheena is sitting in the garden with her Spoink, sketching a certain Truffula tree. Next to her are several more sketches of the sapling in various stages of growth--some with others (the Lorax, Ted, or Once-ler) in the scene. She had come to know just how much this tree means to all three of them and felt it only right that others here--now and in the future--know all about this sapling and what they did to help it survive and grow.

Sighing, she stops her sketching and looks ahead, her eyes slightly unfocused. Two of them have left, and she should be happy for them. And to an extent, she is. Ted's gone home to his friends and family, and the Once-ler... She can't forget what he had told her about being alone for so long until Ted had appeared in his life. No one should have to go through that, and although her friend had made it sound like it hadn't happened (or won't happen), she hopes he's wrong and others had shown up to help ease that solitude.

Setting aside her sketches, she picks up her journal and begins writing, asking a couple of questions that she herself can't really answer. Not anymore.]

If you could remember anything about this place when you go home, would you? Or if you could, knowing what's waiting for you when you get back, would you choose to stay here and leave your world behind?

I know. It's one I thought I knew the answer to, once.

_{[ Spying Sheena in the gardens brought a smile to the King's lips. With it being a bit warmer out now, he was less wrapped up in thick cloth and fur, and stuck mostly to the thick robes. Even with them on, he managed to glide with relatively little noise, coming up behind Sheena as Agni and Bacon dashed up to greet the Spoink.

He bent down behind her, kissing her cheek in uncle-like greeting. ]}

You chose a lovely day to come outside.

[He's happy to see her words. The fact they are there means she's all right. Although for the context of them, he has to wonder. He puts in a filter and dictates.]

Hello Sheena. I'm very glad to see-- [Hmm, see what, exactly? He will ask questions about her questions but he needs to do something else first.]

I'm very sorry for what happened. Thank you. For what you did, for your loyalty. It means a lot to me.

[He may have not made any noise, but the two greeting the Spoink certainly did, so knowing who they belong to, she's not surprised by the sudden kiss to the cheek.]

Hello, Uncle. Yes, it is nice out.

[She closes the journal so he doesn't see what's there.]

So, who is taking who for a walk? You, them? Or them, you?

[She knows how animals can be...]

[Well, physically, she's doing okay. All the scratches and bruises are healing up pretty nicely.

Emotionally...well, that's a bit up and down--mostly ranging in the "pensive" area.]

Hi, Doctor. You don't have to apologize for anything. You're my friend [and she's very loyal to her friends], and I'm the one who should be doing the apologizing. [A beat.] I'm sorry for what I did to you.

Are you all right?

I think we both tend to walk each other. It at least makes them easier to manage inside, the little beasts.

_{[ It was said fondly though, watching the three play as he took his
seat beside her, hands folding into his lap. ]}

What are you doing out here? The gardens are not quite ready for enjoying spring blooms yet.

[Oh, but he does have to apologise.

He frowns a moment at her text, wondering why she's not spoken yet. Her apology isn't needed but that she does, well, he recalls enough to know she was eager to help him.]

Not at all and I'm fine, thank you. Sheena, are you all right?

[No he doesn't. His actions weren't his. And as long as he's her friend, she'll always try to help him if she can.

There's a pause before she writes her answer as his question surprises her.]

I'm fine, Doctor. Why?

[He'd be touched if he knew that. It's possible that he even may, inferred from her actions, and he'll always try to protect her and her friendship as much as he ever can.

The thing is, as much as he's apologised to people already, it might not exactly be what the Mara did that he's apologising for.]

You're being very quiet. That's not usual, is it?

To answer your other question... I couldn't leave my world behind. There are people waiting for me. And as much as I would want to go back, being here... there's a lot to leave behind here too. [The people he has met. The friendships.]

[She chuckled.]

That sounds about right. You decide to take them out, and they lead. [She chuckled again as she watched the three play, her own smile fond as she watched the Spoink--like a parent and child--as Ashura sat down.]

I know, but there's more out here than just the flowers. [And she holds up one of her sketches.] I was drawing the Truffula Tree. [She turned to him, her eyes bright.]

Have you seen it, Uncle?

I'm not sure I understand. You don't want what you wanted before?

[Sheena's usually obvious in her actions when it comes to her friends, so it's possible he does know. If not, she'll just have to tell him with a simple "you're my friend" again until he realizes just what those three words mean to her.

And she wouldn't know what else he'd have to apologize for.

Although she may have to apologize for making him worry. And says it--orally.

I'm sorry, Doctor. Writing forces me to think before I say something--which, you're right. It's not usual. [She laughs good-naturedly, because a noisy ninja?]

[But she grows quiet at his answer.]

It's not an easy question to answer is it? Even if you know you won't remember anyone when you go back.

[Being told that might do him a world of good. For while he can infer things and feel them on some level, to others he is perfectly oblivious. Emotions he can wear on his sleeve when it comes to reacting to others, but for others to do that to him, it highlights his alien nature.]

[It's better to hear her voice though.] It's all right. No, I didn't think it was usual. [Said with a trace of a smile in his voice.]

Precisely. I wouldn't want to forget.

Hmm, yes, when I have come out. It's a bit odd looking, but I never thought much of it.

_{[ He reached out to ask for the sketchook, having been unaware that
Sheena liked to draw. She was quite good, in his estimation. ]}

Do you like them then?

[She hands over the sketchbook, her cheeks tinting pink at the request.]

Yeah, I like it. It's not like anything I've seen on my world, either. [She looks at a sketch, a smile of wonder on her face.] From what I gather, the tops can be different colors--like flowers.

So, I guess it's part tree, part flower...

_{[ He flips through it quietly, admiring the sketches she has done. He
enjoyed art, though had no great talent for it himself. ]}

That's interesting. It is rather sad, then, that we have only the one to admire.

[Oh, she'll tell him, he can count on that--as many times as it takes. She's a font of emotions--most of which she tries to keep hidden, but doesn't always succeed, while certain others are plainly seen and easier to express.]

Gee, thanks. You didn't have to agree with me, you know. [Said oh-so-wryly and with a chuckle, so no hard feelings there.]

Neither would I... So, I'm doing something... [A pause.] Doctor, would you like to join me in the garden? I can show you what I'm doing.

[She smiles to the point of almost beaming.]

Now. But like any plant, it'll probably drop seeds and we'll have more.

Of all colors.

So we shall have ourselves something of a candy forest then, won't we?

[She laughs.]

Something like that. I just hope people don't think they can be eaten...

[They could always make a sign: "Please Don't Eat the Trees".]

[Over where he is, at his side of the journal, he smiles for the light and good natured banter.]

I'd be pleased to join you. Of course, I'm going to admit to some curiosity at what it is you're up to. Give me a minute or two, I shan't be a tick. [And with that, he is on the move.]

I think that they shall know they are not for eating. I do not think many people look at trees and think "those will taste good".

[Her smile widens.]

Well, you won't satisfy that curiosity until you get here, now will you? [Because she's not going to tell him. La la la.]

Okay. I'll be here! Just look for a Spoink bouncing away. I'm right near it.

[Nice to be clear on that, huh?]

Normally, yeah. But who knows what the castle's tricks might do to people? I mean, they already look like candy...

Well that is true, but usually if it wants to do something like that it provides its own candy with little side-effects, doesn't it?
