[ the journal picks up the sound of a light breeze - someone's found his way to the rooftop, carefully perched on one of those archer notches. sometimes, it's nice to have a moment to reflect. or stare out at the land and think wow that's pretty. Hal happens to be doing more of the former before he decides to speak up and give this journal thing a proper go. ]

This city certainly is quite a sight. [ a laugh ] There would be no view like this back home.

[ after a pause: ] -- do forgive me, citizens, I've not properly introduced myself with my limited practice of this journal. My name is Harry. And I wished to very belatedly voice my gratitude for the kind chaps at the clinic, I don't believe I had said so at the time. Your work is impeccable.

[ the wind picks up a bit, rustling the papers of the journal before Hal smooths it out with his hand. ]

I've been told that this castle houses a grand library as well. Should any among you feel obliged, I would not mind company along the way. I can promise to be on my best behaviour and provide decent companionship if anyone happens to be traveling in that direction.


[ ooc; any clinic folks can feel free to assume they treated Hal's spear wound on his left shoulder! ]

As it happens, I was on the way to the library myself.

Is that an invitation, then?

[fearbringer]

Why don't you tell me where you are right now and we'll see.

[reiks]

Oh--

[ erm ... ]

Currently I've found my way up to the castle's rooftop, but I could make my way back somewhere less precarious for a rendez-vous.

[fearbringer]

That won't be necessary.

[Pitch shows up immediately. If Henry can see him, he'll appear to just step out of a darkened corner. If Henry can't see him, then of course nothing will change... except, possibly, a heightened sense of uneasiness.]

[OOC: Info on what sorts of characters will be able to see/sense him!]

I beg your pardon?

[ --but before there's any answer, Hal feels a different sort of breeze, and suddenly feels like maybe he shouldn't be up on the roof. he sets the journal in his lap, having a look around (is this stranger going to join him on the roof, from nearby?) and keeping a firm hold on the ledge. this probably wasn't a good idea. ]

[fearbringer]

[Pitch walks closer, aaaaand... yup. The guy doesn't seem to be able to see him. Oh, well.

He takes out his journal-- which will be visible to Harry-- and talks into it.]

I'm here. I'm just invisible to you-- for now.

[reiks]

[ alright, Hal wasn't expecting that, and his attention was focused elsewhere, so hopefully that surprised yelp and startled jump is excusable. he scrambles to grab ahold of his journal before it could plummet to the ground.

what in the how what why what-- ]

... oh.

[ clearing his throat ] If you'll forgive my asking-- how are you doing that?

[fearbringer]

I'm not doing it. This is all on you, I'm afraid.

You don't believe in me, which means you can't see me. I would like to change that.

[reiks]

It is? [ where should he be looking, he is so confused- ] Well, I imagine it ... would make conversation easier. How do we fix this, then?

[fearbringer]

[Still dictating into the journal:]

Hopefully, I tell you what I am, you believe me, and then I become visible. That's the easiest way. It's worked with some, but with others...

[And him being new might be a difficulty, as well. New people are often less likely to accept the less mundane aspects of castle life.

Still, it's worth a shot.]

I am a fear spirit. Some cultures call me the Boogeyman.

[assassino]

Citizens? [Colour Ezio vaguely amused.] And here I thought we were foreigners to this land!

[reiks]

[ ...

"Boogeyman."

it honestly sounds like some sort of trick, a prank or something. someone's standing behind him just out of view, and trying to fool him. so Hal's skeptical at first, but at the same time - it seems awfully elaborate for a prank, especially considering how high up they were. ]

Well. [ he taps his chin with his finger, pondering. ] Theoretically, it would be improbable not to believe in someone who is nearby and speaking to me. Considering what else I have seen in this city, it would not be so far-fetched an idea.

On the other hand, I could have gone quite mad.

[reiks]

I imagine we all start out as such, upon arrival. If we are to stay here, however, are we not the city's new citizens?

[fearbringer]

I assure you, it's not that.

I've overturned chairs to prove my presence to people before, though I don't see any up here.

[reiks]

[ hmm. well, always good to know he's not mad. but it does make things a tad more difficult. ]

But you are tangible then, yes? [ if he can move chairs, that's something. ]

[fearbringer]

In a sense.

You'll have to tell me how I can prove myself to you; I can't do it otherwise.

[reiks]

[ hmm. it takes a moment, but then a thought pops into his head and Hal reaches for the journal, turning to a blank page and tearing it out of the book. he folds it once, twice, then holds it up in the air where he ... assumes the invisible stranger must be. ]

Can you unfold that?

[fearbringer]

[Pitch plucks it from Harry's fingers and unfolds it immediately, then writes on it:]

See?

[reiks]

[ and that's officially the coolest thing Hal's ever seen holy shit ]

I believe you have proven yourself, then.

[fearbringer]

Only if you can see me.

[reiks]

Well, I do know you're there, at the very least.


[ ooc; i'm just going to say now Hal can see him because i love Pitch ok ok ]

[fearbringer]

[Pitch takes a step closer, waving a hand in front of Harry's face.]

[OOC: Definitely okay!]

I suppose I just did not consider Paradisa a state or nation of its own. What is a nation without a sovereign, really? And who here would stand behind a ruler we cannot see, nor hear, nor depose of if we wished?
