[Pitch... is just a little bit bored. It's not that there hasn't been a lot going on-- exactly the opposite. But he doesn't have his fear-related powers, and without them, he's kind of at a loss for what to do with himself. It's his first time without them in all of his existence, after all.

And so, at a moment of relative quiet, he heads out to the Castle's split to amuse himself a bit. He's on the right, but he has the journal open-- so while only people on his side can run into him in person, the entire castle can pick up on his activities.]

Is it possible to get across this thing, I wonder? Has anyone tried to lower themselves into it and then climb up the other side?

[He kind of doubts it, but hey, no harm in asking.

There's the faint sound of small pieces of stone hitting the chasm walls. Then again. And again. He's tossing small chunks of rock (hacked off of his own room's cavelike walls) into the void, trying to make them land on the other side.]

If any of you over there find pebbles on the floor near your side of the drop-off, tell me. I'm curious about how far my throws are going.

Knowing the way this place works, that pit is probably literally bottomless. Lowering yourself into a thing that's bottomless is probably not a super good idea.

[Sheena's not on the edge of the chasm, but she's close enough that a certain bouncing Pokemon won't leave her side out of fear.

Coming up on him, Sheena can't help overhearing his questions, and tilting her head, looks at him curiously.]

Do you have any rope?

[And no, she doesn't mean for climbing.]

No, and it doesn't seem we're having our wishes granted right now.

I think there's a difference between exploration and... all this stuff.

Oh? And what would that difference be?

[The Spoink cowers behind her when she gets close to the edge to look across, not so much as bouncing as bobbing up and down. Taking pity, she steps back a foot or so before answering.]

No... I've been here too long to know that's not a good idea. No, I was thinking of getting a specific length of rope and tying something to the end and tossing it across.

If we knew how long the rope was, we'd be able to get the distance that way.

I'm not sure I could toss the end of a rope as far as I could toss a rock. Could you?

That's why you tie something like a rock to the end of the rope.

You know, like a grappling hook? You're actually throwing the hook; the rope's just along for the ride.

[Or in this case, the measuring.]

Uh. Well, for one, anything the castle does usually tuns out bad. Or stupid.

Ah. Now that would possibly work.

Unfortunately, I meant it when I said I didn't have a rope.

So do a lot of exploratory missions.

Places with a lot of magic are pretty much by definition magic stupid.

Well, then it stands to reason their explorations would be, too.

If I learned anything from being here for like four years, it's that everything here is stupid.
