[Even though Mindfang's sleep schedule has been erratic at best, the lack of sun today has not escaped her notice. Of course, being of a nocturnal species, this does not bother her one bit. She lights a candle and skims through the journal entries, smirking.]

I fail to see why every8ody is so upset over the lack of sun.
Surely you other species are not so weak as to shut down 8ecause of a little darkness.

[As she shifts in her chair, she can hear something scrambling around in one of the darker corners of her room. She frowns, but as a gr8 pir8 captain, she keeps her cool.

For the most part.]

In fact, I 8elieve I shall take a stroll around the castle today to 8ask in the moonlight.

[And with that, she's out the door!]

[Shiki, who has been huddling in her room, filled with candles, but very much not moving anywhere, answers in a soft voice. Not a I-don't-want-people-to-hear-me kind of soft voice, but a hey-you-know-what?-caution-isn't-a-bad-idea-right-now kind of soft voice.]

Because the sun always rises. So if it's not, something is really, really wrong.

[Someone is thinking of other things besides the constant darkness.]

Why do you stick in eights?

[One incredibly paranoid sea dweller who hears the faint sound of chainsaws revving no matter where he goes.

AND YES HE'S ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR YOU SPECIFICALLY RIGHT NOW MINDFANG he wants that wand 8ack........

I mean back.]

There is already something wrong when one is transported to a magical castle against their will. Something as simple as a dark day is hardly cause for further alarm.

[And there's that scratching sound again! She jumps a bit, but keeps moving. Nothing is going to get the jump on her!]

Though it is possible that there may be something else afoot.

8ecause 8 is a 8eautiful num8er, and as such, it acts as an excellent su8stitute for the letter--

[It takes a decent amount of effort to write this.]

"B." Which, quite frankly, does not deserve to 8e a letter in the first place.

[Which is to say she's never thought about it before. Some things just come naturally when you are raised by a giant spider, apparently.]

[Oh look - it's Dualscar's miniature! Surely mocking him will take her mind off of all these weird sounds she's been hearing.]

Well, hello there again.

My, you look a little rough around the gills. Surely you're not scared by a little darkness, are you?

[Because she's sure not. Nope. Not at all.]

[And while she's on her walk, she'll see a familiar dragon just down the hall, lifting his head and looking at her. Even with night vision, it's a bit difficult to see black against black.]

[Mindfang doesn't notice said familiar dragon until she's close, and even then she can only make out the eyes at first. She jumps, and her hand instinctively reaches for her sword. Could this be the thing she's heard scurrying around in dark corners all day?

Needless to say, in her temporary paranoia, she has yet to recognize the dragon in front of her.]

D --> The g100m should be welcomed and it is not as though our kind is not used to bumps, metaphorical or not, in the night
D --> Is a troll's slumber not supposed to be riddled with the infle%ible alarums and e%cursions of countless trials had in youth

[He sees the move for the weapon, and gives a deep thrum in response, although he doesn't move forward. Maybe she'll recognize his vocalizations..?]

It makes me wonder how these other species could have possi8ly survived on their respective planets.
With no trials, how do they know which individuals are 8est to continue the legacy of their race?

[She halts, not immediately recognizing the noises, but at least recognizing that they are not quite the same as the sounds she's been hearing. A new threat? No...

As she calms, she allows her vision eight-fold to do its work, and she spots the familiar outline of the dragon against the darkness. Her hands drops, and she relaxes.]

Ah, I see. It's only you.

[Toothless comes forward, into the light of the candle, a gentle rumble rolling out from him.]

D --> It is possible they have had other sorts of trials
D --> Though I doubt anything as esteemed as our own

[OH FUCK DON'T HURT M-oh it's that stupid pirate.

Totally putting on a brave face and turning towards her, his expression completely aloof as per normal except he's totally faking it.]

Ugh, there you are.

[Holding out his hand.]

It is simply a shame for them that their trials are not so "esteemed."
Perhaps then they would find themselves 8etter equipped to tackle a little extra night time.

[She can still hear something scurrying about behind her, but Mindfang figures that sticking around a dragon can't hurt, so she reaches out to touch his snout, just to be sure he's actually there.]

[She's confused for a moment - what wand? Then she remembers the useless toy she nicked from him. Well, permanent nighttime or not, she's not going to give up her prize so easily!]

And why would I conceive of giving it back to you? I quite like the way it looks in my hat.

D --> This darkness seems to be more of a curse
D --> Judging from all the e%tra sounds and illusions dancing about in the night
D --> I assume this is in some way meant to scare the castle residents
D --> But then again, allowing oneself to be thwarted by such a childish attempt at quelling fear is simply f001ish

[Her fingers brush against the smooth, scaly surface as a soft snort escapes the dragon, watching her soundlessly.]

Well, I don't get it. [What is a troll? What is a spidermom?]

What makes eight so great? And B is pretty much like all of the other letters how it makes a sound, as far as I can see.

The point still stands.
There is nothing unusual a8out dangerous 8eings lurking a8out.
To 8e frightened 8y them - even if they are fake - shows the weakness of the culture.

[She lets out a sigh of relief.]

Well then, dragon, I propose that you join my on my stroll. Surely a beast such as you needs to get out and about every now and then.

[Mindfang does not know why she is trying to make excuses to a dragon who probably doesn't even understand her, but hey, it can't hurt.]

8 is a num8er representative of who I am.
Part of what makes me such a powerful plunderer is my vision 8-fold, and in general it is a num8er associ8ed with my extraordinary luck.
Though I suppose there is nothing intrinsically terri8le a8out the letter 8 - sorry, "B" - I simply do not see any reason to use it when 8 is just as effective and more versatile.

[Alleyne is off slowly patrolling the halls, checking on everyone slowly, a lantern faintly glowing on the end of her staff flung at an angle over her shoulder. Her steps are careful and calculated, eyes sharp, ears perked up and flicking about, picking up even the faintest footsteps.]
