seven breaks of the stone
[Durge had dully noted the situation with books and had done his best to avoid cracking one open, which had been mostly successful...until today. Sometime in the process of tidying up his room he'd knocked over a copy of Beginner's Chemistry he'd forgotten that he'd left on a side table. The next moment the knight was clad in a white labcoat and safety goggles and was rushing excitedly off downstairs...
A few minutes later Durge is in the kitchen. He's ransacked the fridge and come out with a jar of pickles. People coming in for a bite to eat will discover he's hooked one of these innocent condiment foods up to the wall socket via a dubious arrangement of wires and nails, on each skewered in to either end of the pickle.
One flick of a switch later and there a horrendous crackling and sizzling, and then, quite obviously, the pickle begins to glow a bright yellowish orange, while Durge looks on with a slightly gleeful glint in his eye]
Very interesting...
((ooc: the experiment he's emulating is this, because I told somebody I would. FYI, I am not very good at chemistry. At all. Have mercy on me.))
