[There's silence for a moment while Jaime tries to decide what to say.]

It seems there are three possibilities laid before me. First, and most preferable, is that everyone around me has gone mad. Second, and admittedly most likely, is that I have gone mad. Third, and what seems increasingly to be the case: I have truly been magically spirited away -- like a little boy kidnapped by a Snark -- to some castle that doesn't exist anywhere in particular, for no particular purpose.

Forgive me if I'm overly talkative. I've been in a cell for most of a year -- rats are not the best of conversationalists.

[Yet another voice he hasn't heard in a very long time, Jon actually tenses a bit when he hears Jaime Lannister's voice in his journal. He'd heard about his brother's capture of the Queen's twin brother, but little else in quite some time. When Jon speaks, Jaime might not recognize the voice, at least at first. It sounds much older, more weathered and experienced than the first (and only) time they spoke.]

You'll find no Snarks here, Ser Jaime. Just a lot of people as mad as you are.

Well, that's a comfort. We're each as mad as the next, are we? Perhaps more comforting to some than others.

We must be, to have been sent here with no way home, and no purpose beyond what we make for ourselves. At least we're not alone in our imprisonment. Whatever else one might think of this place, that we share this fate with others makes it easier to bear.

It's been a long time, Ser Jaime. I hope my brother was kind to you, during your imprisonment.

Has it? I guess I never noticed. Serving the Watch leaves little time for vanity.

I feel I should thank you, Ser Jaime. Your words, and those of your brother helped prepare me for the reality of service on the Wall. They helped shape me into the man I've become.

It's perfectly understandable. Some here will talk far more to no one but themselves. Something about coping with a shifting reality really brings the conversationalists in people.

I suppose a welcome is in order?

Hardly. I was recently released, on my way back to my sister the queen, and my nephew the king.
