Episode 93

[spongetastic]

[Peter likes to wake up first so he can make breakfast for Phoebe. He starts on the coffee first but doesn't get farther than that. A pink figure bursts out from the other room]

Daddy!

[Peter turns and stares at her, stunned. She rushes over and throws her arms around him in a hug. All Peter can do is hug her back. Truthfully, with all the people who've left lately, he didn't expect to see her again]

Mary... You're back. I missed you so much.

I missed you too, Daddy. But Daddy? You're squeezing me too tight.

Sorry. [oh geez how's he going to explain this to Phoebe?]

Elektra! Hi! Is Helen back?

She's with us. I'll get her ready for a visit. She's playing with her papa right now.

[spongetastic]

I can't wait to see her!

You'll see her, I promise. [and to Elektra] She's as energetic as ever.

[likethetragedy]

I can hear that. How is everything over there? Aside from happy. [Gently prodding for more to the story? Never.]

[spongetastic]

Good. Phoebe's going to love her, I'm sure.

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe had been just begun to stretch awake when she heard the excited shouts of a little girl.


Waitwhat?


Blinking, she pulls on a robe and steps out into the living area with a very confused look on her face. Who is this child and why is she calling her boyfriend]

Daddy?

[spongetastic]

Phoebe... [very carefully covers Mary's ears. She happily leans into him, watching Phoebe with wide eyes]

She's from the castle. A lot of people get children for a week. This is the third year I've gotten to take care of her. [and he uncovers her ears again]

[kungfuwitch]

So she's... [Oh wait her ears are uncovered. She picks up that he doesn't want her to know that little fact and nods. She'll have to talk to him later when the little inquisitive ears are asleep.

Instead she smiles broadly and crouches down to her level] Hi, there. I'm Phoebe, what's your name?

[likethetragedy]

Looking forward to them meeting?

Yeah, I am, actually.

[spongetastic]

Me too! Daddy says she's reallly pretty and nice!

[spongetastic]

[Mary peers at this woman shyly] I'm Mary. Mary Alice Petrelli. You're just as pretty as Daddy said.

[kungfuwitch]

[She smiles up at Peter before looking back at Mary]

And you're just as sweet as your daddy. [she winks at her] though I think you're prettier than he is.

[Peter just watches, happy that Mary finally has a woman to bond with. Mary giggles happily at the compliment. But then she turns serious]

I've never seen Daddy with a girl before.

[spongetastic]

Well that's... because Phoebe's very special and Daddy loves her very much.

[and he kisses Phoebe to demonstrate. Mary covers her eyes]

I have to agree with your dad. She's always been that way about me.

[spongetastic]

Do you know if she plays with dolls? Daddy only has action figures.

[likethetragedy]

I've never seen her play dolls, but I bet she'd like them.

[spongetastic]

Okay, good!

Are you done with the journal now, sweetie?

Ahuh.

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe grins and wraps an arm around his waist]

And I love him.

[To Mary.] What would you like to do today, honey?

[spongetastic]

[once she's sure they've finished kissing, Mary grabs Phoebe's hand and swings it back and forth]

Do you have any dolls I can play with? Daddy only has action figures.

[Peter just sighs. He really wishes she would stop telling people about his action figures]

[kungfuwitch]

[She laughs, grinning at Peter before giving Mary's hand a squeeze.]

That's because boys are silly. I can get you some dolls, honey, don't you worry about that.

[spongetastic]

Boys are very silly. [she says this in a super-serious voice]

Well, then I'm glad you have a girl to play with.

[likethetragedy]

Let me know when you want me to bring Helen by.

[spongetastic]

We'll probably be by later.

[kungfuwitch]

I'll get dressed and we'll play, okay? Maybe if you ask daddy nicely he'll make you some pancakes for breakfast.

[She winks at Peter.]

[spongetastic]

[Mary turns to Peter hopefully] Yes, of course. I was just about to do that for both of my lovely ladies.

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe gives Peter a kiss on the cheek before sweeping Mary off her feet]

Come on, lovely lady. Let's get all spruced up for Daddy, what do you think?

[spongetastic]

Okay!!

[Peter smiles, getting to work on breakfast]

[kungfuwitch]

[She whisks Mary away and lets her help pick out her clothes. She also takes the time to do Mary's hair and have a little "girl time" with her. Once they're sufficiently beautified they return to the kitchen hand in hand]

[spongetastic]

[Mary has already decided she loves Phoebe. Finally someone to play dress-up with! When they get back Peter has breakfast ready]

Wow, look at you two. You're both so beautiful. I feel under-dressed now.

[kungfuwitch]

[She winks at Mary]

And that reaction is exactly why we get dressed up. [She smiles at Peter.] I think you look handsome, sweetie.

[spongetastic]

[Peter pulls the chairs back for his ladies, pecking Phoebe on the cheek] Thank you.

[Mary watches them with interest. She's never seen her dad like this]

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe grins and sits down] And thank you. Besides, you made breakfast so I think you're entitled to be a little underdressed.

[spongetastic]

I like cooking. And later, we can all go out for a walk so the whole castle can see what a lucky guy I am.

[kungfuwitch]

I think that sounds like a lovely idea. It's too nice a day to stay cooped up inside, anyway.

[spongetastic]

I want to go swimming, please.

Anything you want, kiddo. But eat up first, okay? [he kisses her head lovingly]

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe just gives Peter a smile as she digs in, herself. It wasn't how she expected to get a family but she wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth... as it were. As strange as it was it wasn't the worst thing that's happened there by far.]

[spongetastic]

[Peter really likes this, as strange as it is. And Mary is obviously enjoying herself too. It's a good moment]

[kungfuwitch]

[For a while, Phoebe actually lets herself believe this is reality, not some magic castle toying with their emotions. It's not a bad life to imagine, actually.]
