[as you flip through, there's suddenly a messy stroke of really wet ink on the page of the journal, then the sound of someone picking it up and shaking it a little, making the ink run]

...Whoops. Maybe I shouldn't practice on the desk.

[and then he stupidly rubs it in hopes of getting it to dry faster, smearing ink all over the place]

Sorry! I haven't practiced for a long time so I forgot how messy it gets on different kinds of paper.

Hehe, sorry! I just got some calligraphy ink on the journal.

Yeah. I'm in the Calligraphy Club back home. I don't really like it, but my best friend Aoi's there so it's better than nothing.

Yeah. I was going to start off with the word "practice".

Thanks! That's the first time anyone's ever said that. Normally they think my choices are dumb.

Sometimes! But we both like practicing too!

That's good. Calligraphy is a one person thing, so it's hard to practice with others.

I'd practice with you, but I wouldn't be any good at it.

I do, but I'm not very good at playing an instrument. I can barely play a recorder.

I never heard anyone play a recorder, though!

Really? We were all supposed to learn in Elementary school.
