[Forward dated to early tomorrow morning]

 [Now, see, one of the drawbacks to having the power to phase through solid objects whenever he wanted was the fact that occasionally Danny went intangible when he really would have preferred to stay solid.  Case in point, right now.  When he should have been fast asleep and safely solid in bed.

But no.  Instead he had slipped into intangibility in his sleep.  And fallen.

First, straight through his mattress and the floor of his room.  Then through more floors as he kept falling through the floors of the castle.  Seconds before he slams into the floor of the lobby, Danny wakes up and yelps as he hastily redirects his fall just enough to plummet into an empty couch instead of burying his face into the floor.

A few seconds later he yelps again as his journal falls from above and hits him on the head.]

...Oh man, I thought I was over that.

[Cue early morning castle wandering yet again. The god was just descending the stairs when he managed to catch the falling boy in his sights as he slammed into the couch. He gives an upward glance then back to the boy.] Don't tell me you were trying to get around by ceiling?

...I was trying to sleep.

[Danny was too disoriented to put much of an effort into pretending he had never met this guy before.]

... Up there? Unless the castle is playing tricks on you and happened to 'misplace' you in your sleep.

In my room. [He waves halfheartedly at the ceiling.] About five stories up.

That's quite the fall. Oddly convenient that you didn't wake up until last minute. You must have a good sense for these things.

I have experience. [The boy's tone is dark.]

[livinglavidaloki]

Oh? And what kind of experience would that be? [He expresses something of mock concern.]

With this.

Right. Falling from high places does seem like something one wouldn't exactly want to have such experience in. [He'd know all about that, though.]

It happens.

And how is it you continue after such frequent falls? I've seen men larger and sturdier break from such heights.

[schrodingersghost]

...I don't feel like answering that.

[livinglavidaloki]

I won't press. However, do not think me foolish as to not pick up on such things. If you truly wish to keep secrets, perhaps tread more carefully. Or sleep, in your case.

[Danny turns to snap an irritated response at him, but loses his balance when his arms turn intangible again. He slams his face into the couch again as his arms slip through it.]

... Oh? [And the connection is made. Viva la Dead One.] Perhaps you're having trouble controlling more than I was aware. That wouldn't be my area of expertise, however, I regret to inform you.

Not normally.

[livinglavidaloki]

Then what seems to be the issue?

[schrodingersghost]

Don't know. [He pushes himself back up and shifts over to the end of the couch.] Just happens sometimes.

[Steve is going to stare a minute. He hasn't seen Danny in a while and this was a pretty strange reunion.]

... You okay, Danny? [He'll work out how this happened in a minute.]

[...This was awkward. Danny blinks, still a little stunned from his abrupt trip from his tower room to the lobby, and stares at the guy he was fairly certain he'd never met before.]

[He nods.] We met before. So are you okay?

Oh, I'm just fine.

(Danny eyes him warily as he tries to figure out whether this guy knew his secret. Like the other two people who had known him.)

You sure? Because I can get some ice.
