seventh snare - open woods post

[schedules are for people who actually like doing what they're told. at morning reveille, Gale makes his way to the armory, gets a bow and a knife, and makes his way out into the woods.

by mid-morning he's "washed" his bright orange shirt in a mud puddle to make it less obviously visible, and already made a few serviceable snares, setting them low in the undergrowth off the beaten paths. now he's strolling the paths and looking for a proper vantage point. if anyone asks him why he's all the way out here? why, that's easy. he'll just say he's looking for Katniss.]

So, hey, what cabins are you all in? Mine's called Athena... Anyone out there feel like filling me in on what that means?

I should have something for you tonight. What time would you need me to drop it off at the mess hall?

Athena, otherwise known as Minerva, is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy in Greco-Roman mythology. She is one of three virgin goddesses, though... apparently in this world that doesn't exclude her from having demigod children.

Demigods are the children of mortals and gods. Many myths center around a demigod child's birth or their trials as they work to become heroes.

[There's someone else wandering the forest with his bow drawn. Clint showed up to the self-defence class, but he's much happier out in the woods. Besides, he might as well get some hunting experience.

He's... making quite a bit of noise. Not a lot to a regular person, but enough twigs are snapping under his boots to scare off the game. He's a sniper, not a hunter. He's better off standing still.]

[oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd. Gale grits his teeth at the snapping of twigs, and silently gets up from his hiding spot, moving through the trees, crouching down low to palm a small rock as he moves. he's hoping to get close enough to lob it at the back of this moron's head.

if he can pull it off without being seen - which, considering how much noise this guy his making, he might be able to.]

Huh. I'm ... totally skipping out on that list of stuff we woke up to. There are more interesting things out here, and I know how to do a lot of it already anyway.

I think Paradisa is influencing this place. It would explain why some of us are in cabins whose patron gods would not have demigod children, and why they think we should belong here.

[ Klaus is strolling through the woods like he owns it because he totally does, and stops when he comes near enough to the boy to pick up on what sounds like a heartbeat. But he can't really be sure among all the noise in the forest. ]

I ... yeah, that'd do it, I think. Especially since I've never heard of any of these gods before.

At least this is more familiar than Castelia City. That was ... really weird.

Swimming, huh? I'm not the best at it - there's not a lot of water in my District - but I can at least keep my head above the water. [leaving out that Katniss taught him, yep]

Aphrodite, that's a weird name. My friend Hermione, she said that they're all names of gods... and that the people here think we're their children. The gods', I mean.

[he laughs like hell at that] Anyone ever tell you you're mean? ... People keep kinda blundering through here, so I'm not gonna catch anything right away. Where are you gonna be? I can meet you there once I set up a couple of snares.

[mun is guessing Klaus isn't making much noise, so Gale will just keep on working on his snare. once he's got the mechanism of it complete, he'll hide it in the undergrowth and sit back, scanning for a good place to anchor the trip string]

All the time. [the grin is obvious, in her voice. she likes to hear him laugh!] There's a little dock with some chairs on the one side of the lake.

[She takes that bit of information in.] Hm. Then Aphrodite must be the goddess of love, or something like that. Lots of hearts in my cabin. [She is not amused, Castle. That is not funny.]

...Sometimes the lengths the castle goes to so we fit in wherever it takes us surprises me.

I think this place is just more proof on how a story or myth on one world can become reality in another.

But yes, Castelia City was quite odd.
