[It's the middle of the night, and when a man has a craving for a piece of pie, there's no other cure for it than having that piece of pie. Why the hell not? It's a magic castle, apparently, and that's a thing that can happen.

So there is a man standing in the kitchen, dressed in a suit--you won't find him dressed any less--and eating a piece of pie. Turns out that magic pie is actually pretty great.

He has his journal open on the counter before him as he thumbs through it casually as if it was just a newspaper. Then, a thought occurs to him, one that has nagged at him since his arrival, and he flips to a blank page.]

Aside from any personal sense of accomplishment, is there any point to working at all while we're here?

Do any of you work here? Or are you all considering this one big happy vacation?

Or... vacations. Someone please tell me that summer camp was a one time thing.

Well, you can earn money to spend in town, if you'd rather make an honest purchase than wish for something, which some people prefer to do.

There's a handful of businesses in town run by castle folk, I believe. A little sweet shop, a pie place, and a pub I believe. There may be more, but those are all I'm aware of.

Personally, I busk in town. Wander about town with my guitar, and play for caisos. That's the coin of the realm here.

You can get money you didn't wish for by working. I'm working at a candy shop.

I'm pretty sure camp doesn't happen often. I heard that it turned into France and New York before.

But that's not all there is as far as employment options, right? Not that the thought of working retail or the lifestyle of a hippie aren't just oh so appealing.

Well, considering that there's not much in the way of a proper economy around here, not many people go into business for themselves. There's no need, really. Generally speaking, if people have a skill they want to share with others in the castle, they offer it as part of a barter of some sort, or sometimes free of charge, depending on how generous a person is feeling.

What do you do, if you don't mind me asking?

Whoa, whoa. Hold on. You mean to tell me that, in the past, the populace has been transported to France and New York? And everyone is still here? Why didn't anyone just hop on the next flight back home?

From what I've read? They couldn't. You're probably better off asking somebody who's actually been here for that stuff though.

Located on the first floor of this [said sarcastically] wonderful establishment, right? I've seen that. I wasn't sure if it was run by an actual person or just another magic conjured... what's it.

[Although he's rethinking his resistance to all the magic. This pie is fucking delicious.]

Wh-- What do I do? [That's a question he's not entirely accustomed to hearing. His reputation precedes himself. It just hasn't reached this dimension yet. But it will.]

I do many things, but retail and busking are not among them.

Fair enough. By your tone I'd guess you're someone important? Likely a politician or something like that, at a guess.

[Having dealt with the Superhuman Registration Act and watching a lot of television when the trials were happening in his world, Jono knows the voice of a politician when he hears one.]

I work in public relations. Consulting, damage control, campaign manager.

[He huffs, his response delayed by another bit of pie.]

Same. Have you ever wished for a piece of pie? It's actually very good.

I listen to people more than I talk. [Sort of comes with the territory of being a rubbish telepath, like Jono is.] You learn to read between the lines, hear what people aren't saying.

Ahh, so you're a spin doctor, making people look good for the masses. I can respect that. [After all, when one didn't have someone like Charles Xavier or Emma Frost around to make people forget you were ever there, a good media image was one of those Important Things you had to have, being in the public eye the way the X-Men often were.]

It was set up by someone who left the castle before I arrived here. You should try and stop by sometime if you can.
