Hey, this is sort of very last moment, but I was wondering if you'd be willing to do me a favor. I'm heading out on that expedition to Lastlook, and this time around I have a big, furry roommate that probably shouldn't be left alone for however long we're gone.

I'd be super appreciative if you could drop in every now and then and make sure Ace is fed and hasn't destroyed my room.

I'll repay you with that bike ride once I get back. Promise. How does that sound?

Will do, on both counts. Guess I'll save this other surprise for later, then... didn't need to play the ace up my sleeve.

Small children. What else?

The naughty ones, definitely.

But in absence of bad kids, I have a giant bag of dog food in a cabinet by the bathroom. I'll leave feeding instructions on it.

Shall I take him out hunting?

Ace isn't a hunting dog. You can take him for walks, though. He knows how to play fetch.

How do you play fetch?

You throw a stick or a ball, and he'll go get it and bring it back to you.

Can it be anything other than sticks and balls?

Toys? Ace sized stuff, anyway. As long as he can carry it, he'll bring it back.

I will keep a tally.

Don't let him tire you out too much.

Only as much as I want him to.

No pet dogs at home, I'm guessing.

My husband has hunting dogs.

Ace is more of a guard dog, if anything. He'll play fetch, but he's happier to sit at your feet or relax somewhere and watch what's going on.
