Today is Women's Equality Day in America. Or at least it is in my universe; I'm not sure what the political climate is like where the rest of you lot come from.

But in 1920, on today's date, the United States finally granted women the right to vote.

[A pause.]

It's really a bit silly, dedicating a single day to 'women's equality,' isn't it? It isn't as though doing such a thing'll erase all the inequality the female sex still suffers. Not to mention it's not a day that gets a lot of attention and fanfare to begin with. I reckon most calendars don't even mark it.

Not that I hold any real stock in voting, anyway. Nor do the rest of you, from the looks of it. But I suppose I ought to be grateful for small victories in the grand scheme of things.

I've heard a bit about that, though. It sounds as though they simply couldn't decide how much authority they wanted to exert over the day-to-day life of the castle.

The new world has prospered far beyond my own time then... what, exactly, are they voting for?

[She has not found out about this yet. Democracy in particular is... elusive.

Voting isn't really all that big a deal when votes can be bought. I'm pretty sure elections in my time are rigged. Then again, I'm not allowed to vote, so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

[Transgenics lack a bit of legal authority. Probably because they used to run missions where political leaders didn't quite make it. Add to it the inherent political corruption of the time, and yeah. Equality in voting really doesn't matter when votes don't really count.]

Personally, where I'm from equality in jobs is placed aside in favor of actually having one. And men are always gonna be men. The question is, how do you let that work for you?

Women don't have equality in my country. At all. Our views are worth next to nothing.

We've got a queen, yeah. But the power of the monarchy's been severely limited since the Industrial Revolution. Mostly just a figurehead now.

What happened in the Industrial Revolution? Did the people revolt?

[She laughs a little!!] No, sunbeam -- it was a revolution in terms of ideas and the like. New technology led to social change, which led to the people smartening up a bit, I suppose.

That's not quite the same as not caring about equality.

Whatever the government poses them to vote on. Changes in the laws and things like that, though mostly it's representatives who decide that -- so mainly they're voting for their representatives.

You're preaching to the choir, Max. Personally I think we'd all be better off not voting to begin with. Why support a corrupt system? But I'd rather we all had a say than some of us.
