04 | In which there are a great many books. [Dictated/Action]

[It's a bit late, but Howl seems not to have noticed, preoccupied as he has been with all three floors of the library. He's at a table now, completely surrounded by haphazard piles as he flips open the journal and speaks.]

I don't suppose anyone has a cart they could lend me? I seem to have been a little over-ambitious when making my reading selections in the library.

[Not that he couldn't conjure something up, but asking is far easier.]

[ Over-ambitious might be a bit of an understatement since Howl was nearby buried under mountains and mountains of books. While the Elvenlord ventured to the library this evening in search of ancient tomes and text, Celeborn refused his desire for knowledge to overwhelm him.

Idly flipping through the pages of a nameless book, the Elf cast his gaze upon the young sorcerer once he spotted the blond nearby. He's tempted to inquire about what the youth was doing but Celeborn rather observe.

He didn't doubt that Howl probably already sensed his presence but the Elf took the shadows of the library and forsook the orange glow of a candle's flame. The dark doesn't bother him much. ]

[Dude. Dude what did you do to his shelves dude? All his beautiful shelves]

...You want to take all of these books away? Right now?

[There is a soft clucking in the library, coming from the rooster perched atop one of the adjacent shelves and watching Howl intently]

[He's abysmally unorganized, Spike. Sorry.]

Well...

[He eyes the piles]

No. That might be overdoing things a bit.

[Well. Roosters in the library. Talking baby dragons did not bother him in the least, but a chicken? That seemed potentially hazardous for the books.

And for some reason, it seemed familiar, which was utterly ridiculous, really.]

Well, hello there.

[Nope, no qualms about talking to random... fowl.]

[For awhile, Howl appears utterly oblivious to anyone else's presence, poking through first one book and then another, shuffling the precarious piles around as he does so. It's hard to tell if he's really looking for anything in specific, at this point. But in the midst of flipping through and old atlas, he pauses, without lifting his eyes from the page.]

I'm Howl, by the way.

[Just his way of saying 'I see you, there.']

[Well of course he's familiar. He's fabulous, even for a rooster. The castle knows what it's doing in that regard.

He waits a moment and then flutters down off the stacks (he's gotten some practice at this), and lands on one of Howl's stack of books, sending it toppling all over the place in the process.

Whoops.]

[He winces a bit as the books go cascading off the table and onto the floor, sounding like someone'd dropped a load of bricks. Well, at least the place was mostly deserted at this point.

He switched his focus to more important things. Namely, the rooster. After staring for a few moments, he tipped his head to one side, and squinted a little.]

...Felix?

[It seemed pretty preposterous--why would he want to be a chicken, of all things?--and yet, he had a hard time believing he was just imagining things.]

[ It was then that Celeborn closed his book and promptly left the comfort of the shadows. ]

So you have noticed me.

[ There's a tinge of humor in his tone. A very slight tinge but it's there nonetheless. ]

Forgive my silence, I simply wished not to disturb you. I am Celeborn of Lothlórien.

[Oh noooo it's like having a second Twilight]

Juuust a little. Can you even read all of those in...you know, less than a week.

It's no disruption, really. I'm just keeping myself occupied.

[Because if not, he'd wind up getting himself into trouble in a place like this, he could feel it.]

Oh. Well...

[He looks at the books again and laughs.]

That depends entirely on whether I sleep, doesn't it?

If I may be so curious to ask, what is it that keeps you occupied?

[ Celeborn feels somewhat the same hence why he taken to reading as of late. ]

[Yup. Definitely like Twilight]

Sleep's pretty important bro.

[It takes him a moment to find some firmer footing - sorry about that Howl - before he quirks his head in the other wizard's direction and very purposefully nods.

Up closer, it's easy to notice somebody has fashioned him a collar made from a pretty green ribbon - not unlike the ones the foppish wizard himself would use to tie back his hair]

Oh, a little bit of everything. A bit of magical research, at the moment.

[And a few histories, for what that's worth. He's not sure how informed it's really making him, but knowledge was knowledge.]

[He waves a hand a bit dismissively]

It can be made up later. But...

[He shuffled around the stacks of books and piles up half-a-dozen volumes away from the rest]

Would you find this more reasonable?

[All right. So he'd been correct in that guess. Which didn't... really clarify why Felix had decided to turn himself into a chicken. It certainly wouldn't have been his first choice of animal.]

Quite dapper. Any reason you felt the need to be fowl today?

[He's not sure if he really expects an answer to that or not.]

[He'd frown at Howl if he could. Honestly, what would give him that idea? He turns towards the younger man, flicking tail feathers aside.

He feels the need to try to dignify that with a response. It's worked with other casters before, so it was worth a try...]

:Actually, this was the castle's idea:

[An eyebrow goes up at that unexpected form of communication, but he otherwise seemed unperturbed.]

Was it? Not very nice of it.

[He appears to be contemplating something for a moment as he tries to get a handle on just what the castle has done.]

I could try to lift it, but I wouldn't place money on being able to accomplish much. The castle has a bit more clout than I do.

[He pokes around at the books]

:What in the name of all the powers are you doing with all these books?:

I'll give it a pass then. Sorry.

[At the question, he looks a little bemused.]

I thought I'd read them.

You mean that pile [points at the smaller one] or this pile? [Points at the bigger one. You can't fool HIM, mister]

[Howl puts his hands up as if protesting his innocence]

The small one, I promise.

Okay, then that's fine. So long as you put the giant pile back where you go it.

Yes, yes. I'll make sure it's all neat and tidy.

[Thank goodness for magic. No way would he want to put all these back by hand.]

[Pointing! As threateningly as a two foot tall baby dragon can manage]

You be sure that you do.

[Oh, terribly frightening. Howl's at least kind enough not to laugh.]

Cross my heart.

[He appreciates that, bro]

Good. Because it's a lot of work.

They'll all go right back where they belong. No extra work for you.

[It's not like it would be a hard spell to come up with, and while he might not mind if he made other people's lives harder, he didn't like to do it when they were right there in front of him. He wasn't that callous.]

[Good Howl. You'll be welcomed back into the library ]

The castle's turned you into a rooster. Who's to say I won't walk in here next week and find a swimming pool instead?

Oh, eventually, I'm sure.

[A dismissive handwave, as if that's not really the point.]

[He carefully picks his way over the pile, attempting to read titles]

:Well, are you searching for anything in particular, or simply just attempting to give the ghosts extra work?:

Not particularly particular, no. I'll put them all back when I'm done.

[Or rather, a spell will, because he's far to lazy to do so himself]

I thought I'd familiarize myself with my new home, but I see someone's been very selective about their archiving.

[Likely the castle itself, which is unsurprising, but quite interesting in its own right.]
