[Lisa has been here for about two weeks now and she's definitely starting to feel a little more comfortable. Of course she still has quite a few questions to ask and she hasn't managed to explore the whole area yet but give her time. At least she managed to find her room okay without any help from anyone. That's where she is right now, the journal sitting in front of her. Okay, this question has been bugging her for a while now so here goes.]

I keep hearing and reading about this 'wish' thing. Can I really just wish for anything and it'll appear? I mean there must be some limitations, right?

Just curious.

[No, she hasn't tried it herself before. Probably because she doesn't quite believe it.]

You can't wish for any weapons, or living things as far as I know. And you have to be specific about exactly what you want. Other than that, the sky's the limit.

[She takes all of that in and shakes her head. It can't be true...but other people have wished for things and they've appeared. She's heard of it.]

So, you're saying if I say something like 'I wish for a bacon sandwich' one will just appear?

[Guess what just appeared on her lap?]

...Oh. Wow.

I'm guessing you just answered your own question, didn't you? It's pretty much that easy. I'm not sure if you have to say specifically what you want, as long as you're thinking of it. I haven't tested it myself, as I tend to get fairly specific when I wish for things anyway. Probably helps that for me, thinking and speaking are much the same thing anyway.

This is so weird.

[She holds up the sandwich and turns it over in her hand as if making sure it's real]

I've never heard of anything like this ever happening before...but then I've never heard of a magical castle that takes people from their homes before either. I'm guessing wishing to go home doesn't work.

You get used to it after a while. Part of the charm of this places is that it makes many impossible things possible. That is, if you can cope with the price.

Unfortunately not. Were it that easy, the castle would be a much emptier place. People wouldn't be so focused on figuring out the mysteries of this place.

Be careful when you do it. A couple of months ago it started taking payment for those wishes.

Price? [A sighs as she continues to write] Of course there would be a price. There always is, isn't there? What kind of price are we talking about here?

I guess if that was the case someone would have figured it out by now. Wishful thinking.

[Well that doesn't sound good. There's a pause before Maladict will hear a voice in response.]

Payment? What kind of payment? I knew it would be too good to be true.

It really is that simple. Clothing appears immediately.

It made people sick. Some people even lost memories.

[A pause. Yeah, she's not going to be wishing any time soon.]

Oh...oh, wow I had no idea. I'll be sure to be careful when I do then.

[Rosalie is going to hear a laugh coming from Lisa's side. She doesn't know you well but of course that would be the first thing you think of.]

Wow. Well, I have to admit that's handy. I didn't exactly come here prepared with a change of clothes.

It's advisable. That's for sure.

Well, has anyone explained losses to you? There's that which the castle inflicts on us when we arrive, but then there are smaller things that affect us. They can trap us in rooms, change us into animals, or make us act in away we wouldn't normally. Has a way of messing up a person's routine, you know?

Yeah, unfortunately. There are plenty of people working on it though, so it isn't like we're resting on our laurels here.

I've survived all my life so far without wishing for things, I'm sure I can restrain myself now. Besides, it's just lazy really.

[Of course some people tend to wish for things without even realizing it. She hopes she's not one of those people.]

It is convenient.

Other things are trivial.

See, that's what I don't get. What happened to just going out and getting things yourself? People here as ridiculously idle.

Yes, I know what losses are...even if I'm still not quite sure what my loss was when I arrived here. But I guess that's the point...wow. Well I'm glad none of that has happened to me yet. Has it happened to you before? Being trapped in rooms or being changed into an animal, I mean.

That's good news at least.

You're not the only one. Truth be told, the only reason I know of mine is because someone from my world came here once, and pointed out the big gap in my memories. But yeah, I've had a few of those. Got aged down about a decade, turned into a labrador, turned into a talking pony, and I got put to sleep for about a month. Haven't had any lately though, which makes me a bit nervous.

Yeah. It's slow going, but I hear they're making progress. Kinda wish I could help, but I can't venture out into the Dead Zone, so I have to stick fairly close to the castle.

I guess they just prefer to opt for the easier option. You can't blame them really. Why go to too much effort when you can just get what you want much easier.

And that puts them right where the castle wants them to be.
