[Her hands rest to the edges of the journal, placed in her lap. Seated outside in the center of the city, she's found a lovely spot to rest near the fountain. Every so often a breeze sprays water onto the journal, but a delicate touch wipes the spots away. Her hair is pinned atop her head, helping with the warmer weather, though she still dresses in the slightly formal attire.]

I feel as though I am missing out on so much having come from a time that not many are familiar with.

Which is why I present this question: If you could travel back and teach someone something that was vital for their existence in the present day, what would you show them?

I would like to learn these things. I feel that it would assist me, so that I may not be the girl constantly with her mouth drawn agape when something is revealed to me.

[Sam is not working, and he's not on his way to work. In fact, he's just in town with the dogs, because Cooper followed the scent of something into town and decided not to leave.

When he sees Katerina, however, he smiles. He manages to catch the tail end of her journal entry as he sits on the edge of the fountain]

Is there something in particular you want to start with?

[Okay, when he got a chance, Damon was definitely having a talk with Harmony about her information because for not being here anymore, Katherine sure as hell was pretty damn there. He didn't bother to respond to her on the journal and instead tracked her down himself.

He realizes there's a possibility it's not her, but that possibility is just too damn slim.]

So it's the doe-eyed innocent act again, huh? You know, Katherine, I think you're starting to run out of original ideas. You're getting predictable.

[She laughs lightly, it's modest even. Her head shakes as she presses her hand across the book.]

Kind sir, I appreciate your compliments though I believe they are misplaced. It is not a concern, though, many have thought my name to be Katherine since I arrived here. It is similar, but I am Katerina of the Petrova family.

And what name shall I call you by? [Her tone of voice sounds actually curious.]

[She smiles, turning to face him more.]

Sam, it's nice to see you without a sugary confection in hand.

The microwave? That is the box in the kitchen, correct?

That seems a very noble task.

I suppose so. It just ... it seems like the right thing to do.

[A pause] Do you ... need help with that?

With survival?

Are there things here to be concerned with?

[the_effect_she_has]

[...Congratulations, Katherine, you just made her smile. Sardonically, but still.]

We're in a magical castle that is feeing off of us, surrounded by hostile beasts and creatures, all of which can change at a whim. I think if you're not concerned, you aren't paying attention.

Hostile beasts? I have not seen these. I have heard there is a woman who keeps bears in an enclosure, but I have not heard of anything like this.

Apparently there are killer birds... and mutts have come and gone. It's not safe here, not by a long shot.

I am outside now, should I be concerned?

As long as you're not in the Dead Zone, you should be fine.

[A pause, because this girl sounds completely helpless.] ... but if you hear something funny, or see something, send me a message. I'm Katniss. I'll come and help you.

Nice to see you too. And yes, contrary to popular belief, I don't walk around carrying sweets.

The one that has a spinning plate and heats up your food.

[just in case...because there are so many "boxes" in the kitchen]

[Damon raises a slight brow. She was really committed to this, wasn't she? She does sound exceedingly sincere, but Katherine knows what's supposed to be said and done and that's what makes her so goddamn good at pretending to be so sweet and innocent. But she does have that little pitfall of being aware of just how good she is. So, Damon will let her think she's reeling him in.]

You really don't know who I am, do you? [He moves closer to her.] It's me, Damon. Damon Salvatore.

Are you certain? I am sure you need your strength.

I have yet to use it, but I have been told it is very easy to ruin food with it.

Where is the Dead Zone?

[Her hand stays on the book, keeping it on her lap even as he leans in closer to her. She leans away slightly, unsure of why this man is pressing in so close.]

I am sorry, but I have never heard that name before. It is very nice to meet you though. Are you new to the castle, as well?

[She smiles and gestures for him to sit beside her if he likes.] It seems I am from a time long since forgotten by most who reside here. I am trying to learn of things so that I might avoid becoming frustrated easily. Do you have something you could teach me?

About as easy as any other cooking equipment, I guess.

[Damon hesitates for a moment, but he takes the seat beside her. And he's none too shy about sitting close to her. Anything to provoke her.]

Oh, there's plenty I could teach you. But I'm kinda wounded here that you don't remember me, Katerina.
