1st Ballad: Nightmare Night isn't all too nightmarish... [backdated to October 31st]

I think I'm starting to understand this "Halloween" that's keeping everyone busy today. Back in Equestria, we call it Nightmare Night; it's almost the exact same thing, right down to the costumes and candy, but there's story behind it!

One night per year, Nightmare Moon descends from the skies on the prowl for ponies to hunt, but as long as you were dressed in a costume, she wouldn't find you. You still have to go out and collect candy, but you have to give some of your share to Nightmare Moon...or she'll come and get you! Ooooooooooh~

(Yes, she's making ghost noises. It's for dramatic effect, okay? Of course, Cadence starts laughing after that. She'll spare that whole "eating ponies" part because that's just dumb. Ponies don't eat ponies.)

So how did Halloween come into being? Is there a big, scary monster everyone's trying to hide from, too?

This Nightmare Moon character doth seem rather...blind. And susceptible to bribery.

Oh, I dunno; I'd probably let them run free if it meant getting candy, too. Besides, I've seen ponies dress up in really good costumes! Maybe she likes when they try that hard with their costumes?

I do believe the promise of candy is a rather sweet incentive.

Besides, maybe she has a sweet tooth.

Considering the lack of gobbling, I would venture a guess and presume that statement to be true.

I never understood where that gobbling part came from. It's so silly, isn't it? Who's ever heard of a pony eating another pony?

Now that I cannot fathom. Forsooth, the distortion of tales o'er the years may be the simplest explanation.

That's the only way it could make sense. Kind of like when they say costumes keep ponies hidden. It's a lot of fun, but it's easy to tell when somepony is a pony or not.
