1 Green Leaf - Dictated

Ah, this is the first time I've used this journal to speak with you all. I am Legolas Thranduilion, for those whom I've not met. And I must apologize for not introducing myself sooner.

I've a question, and I'm sure it will sound foolish to many here but I've no idea what this 'Christmas' is. We don't have it where I am from, I'm afraid.

[ooc: open to Kissmas shenanigans~]

Dictated!

[A chipper British accent makes it's dictation on the journal!]

Aha! Surprisingly enough, A few days earlier and I can tell you that I didn't know what it was either. Apparently it's a human holiday! Lots of singing, tree decorating and gift giving is all it's really about.

There's something about it that has to do with angels, but that part isn't particularly important.

[Kat's voice is heavily accented, with background noises as she tries to rid her hangar of the Castle-induced garlands, ornaments, and other such decorations]

Considering the diversity of worlds represented here, it's not a foolish question at all. I can't really say I'm the best to answer it, though, considering I was only peripherally aware of it until I arrived here.

You don't have Christmas where you're from? That's too bad. Anyway, it's...umm...a holiday where people get together with their families, sing silly songs, give each other gifts, and eat lots of food. It's meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who's a religious figure in the Earth religion of Christianity, but lots of different cultures have lots of different variations on the same holiday, that have all kind of been mashed together over the years into what Christmas is now.

Oh, umm...my name is Evan Sabahnur. I just arrived myself, last night I guess.

It's a holiday where people get together with family and loved ones, eat lots of food, exchange extravagant gifts, and spend entirely too much time together.

You're not missing out on much.

You've got your answer. Srs. [ She sounds amused as she makes note of the plural. ]

It is one of the Earth world holidays, if I remember right from last year. It's basis is in a prominent religion, but quite a bit of it now seems to be about celebrating family, friends, and gift giving.

[For the moment, he is going to ignore your actual question and focus on the name. The floating cadence of it... it sounds familiar...

Is there a chance you might know someone named Galadriel?

Christmas is a holiday where kids expect a magical fat man in a red suit to give them really expensive shit they don't need.

You also have to pretend to like a bunch of people you secretly, or not so secretly, hate.

Heh, I've been a newcomer here myself; it's easier to spot the longer you're here.

And true, it is popular. I've seen other holidays come and go, practiced one year an forgotten the next, but this one seems to be a stable.

Well, not everyone celebrates Christmas for the religious connection, but that's kinda how the holiday as people on Earth know it started.

Thanks! I'm guessing you're pretty new here too, huh?

It still holds some of the meaning, but I do not practice it in my world, so it is still a bit of an enigma to me. The Castle uses it as an excuse to play tricks.

Oh, I thought you might. You spoke your name in the same way she does hers. I've always suspected Elvish is a lovely language if your names are as they are.

Ah, but my manners - I am Ashura, a resident here, and a friend to Galadriel.

I have to agree. They weren't really part of my upbringing, but I've experienced some here that are worth repeating, and yet ... [And yet the Castle, nor any of the residents, repeated them.]

If you'd like tos top by the Hangar, I can show you the shrine I made for Dia De Los Muertos. The Castle made a big stink of it the first year I was here, and only that one year. I keep it up because it's something worth remembering.
