☽ 001 [ First Quarter ] -- Accidentally Dictated/Action

 [ One minute Remus is sitting in the Hogwarts library, scanning hastily through his Ancient Runes text, the next he's found himself standing in the main entrance of a very unfamiliar castle, holding a strange little journal that has appeared in place of his text book and some sort of muggle drink given to him by a Polar Bear.

And he is very, very confused. ]

Erm ... Where ... where am I, exactly?

[Lemony wanders out from the elevator, swathed in his nutcracker-smooch-proof scarf, just in time to see this, and nods in greeting]

Good afternoon, sir.

[ Remus nearly jumps out of his skin at the sight of another person and he is quick to launch an inquiry, nevermind the the fact that this man is a stranger and he has absolutely no clue where he is or how he got here.

It never hurt to ask, though, right? ]

O-Oh! Erm ... excuse me, sir.
Could you possibly tell me where I am? I couldn't possibly have apparated, could I? I mean -- you can't really apparate without knowing, nor can you apparate inside Hogwarts grounds --

[ I'm very sorry, Lemony, he rambles sometimes. ]

Hogwarts? ... No, I ... I'm sorry to say you're not there anymore, though I have met someone here who also knows the place. My name is Lemony Snicket, and I'm afraid I have the dubious honor of welcoming you to Cair Paradisa.

[ From her place on the couch nearby, Arya stops petting Nymeria as she blinks at the new arrival. ]

Cair ... Paradisa?

[ He scowls momentarily and looks around briefly, before turning back to Lemony at the mention of another possible Hogwarts resident. ]

You know someone from Hogwarts? Could you -- oh, I'm sorry, how rude --
I am Remus Lupin. It's a pleasure to meet you, I suppose.

[ He would offer a hand to shake, but his hands are a bit full. ]

Well, I sort of gathered that --

[ He turns on the spot at the sound of the voice and simply stares, eyes locked on the wolf with odd expression on his face. Like a mixture of curiosity and discomfort.

He quickly hides his sudden change in demeanor, however, and looks up at the girl. ]

Isn't that sort of dangerous? To have a wolf as a pet?

She's not a pet. She's my friend.

[ The direwolf herself watches Remus with obvious interest. Her ears swivel forward when he speaks. ]

[ As the direwolf turns her attention on him, Remus is suddenly very wary. She's quite large, after all, and he wonders if she can pick out the scent of a werewolf..

He does crack a little smile, though. ]

A friend? Oh ... well, I apologize for my assumption, then.
Does she have a name?

Yes, it's a -- well, it's a rather complicated thing to explain. We may want to find a place to sit. The kitchen is still somewhat comfortable, despite the chilly decor.

[he starts to lead the way] As for Hogwarts, yes, one of my friends and confidantes is a student there. Her name is Hermione Granger ... perhaps you two know each other?

[ Ohhhhhh he knows that voice. Watch as he pretends to not be excited. ]

I suppose that would be a good idea to sit, yes.
[ He nods and starts to follow, though a tad wary.

At the mention of a Hermione Granger, he scowls. That name is not familiar. ]
Hermione Granger ... ? No, I'm afraid I've never met anyone by that name before.

Padfoot, this is not the time for jok--

[ Wait. ]

Did ...

[ He looks down at the book in his arms, a renewed expression of confusion and surprise and wonder appearing on his face.

Guess he was too preoccupied with figuring out his location to notice the journal he's had in his hands all along. ]

Did the book just speak to me?! In Sirius' voice! How -- What is this thing --

Works kind of like one of those Muggle tellytones! Isn't it brilliant?

[ He pauses in his attempt to fish his wand out of his pocket when Sirius' voice answers back and his brows furrow. It doesn't take him very long for him to figure out that this is a communication device and that he is actually talking to Sirius and not just a book.

He swallows, feeling his heart nearly jump into his throat in pure relief. ]

Padfoot? Is that actually you?

Course it is, Moony! And Prongs is here too!

Where are you, the lobby? I'll come find you.

Prongs, too? What about Pete? Is he here as well?

O-Oh, erm yes. I'm in the lobby. I guess I'll just stay where I am, then.

It's called Paradisa. It's not usually this frozen, though.

[ He's grinning as he comes sailing down the stairs about 5 minutes later and calls out to him. ]

Oi, Moony! Welcome to Paradisa!

[ Upon seeing a very familiar figure coming down the stairs toward him, Remus' lips curve up into a bright little smile, very clearly relieved and happy to see him.

He makes his way over, stuffing his wand awkwardly into his pocket again. ]

Took you long enough!
And you're going to have to explain to me what this is all about, mate, 'cause I haven't got the foggiest.

Frozen?

[ He hasn't quite looked outside, yet, but he's at least seen the polar bears! ]

What is Paradisa, exactly?

Yeah. All this ice and snow isn't typical.

Oh, Paradisa is the name of the castle. Some people come up with some creative and rude terms for it.

Nymeria. After the warrior-queen of the Rhoynar. You won't know of her. But she was a great queen. She led ten thousand ships across the narrow sea and conquered Dorne so her people would have a home after they were forced from theirs.

[ He casts another glance at Nymeria, still clearly wary, but is at least attempting to be polite about it. Remus knows canines and he does not want to make himself seem like a threat, after all. ]

Quite an honorable name, then, I take it.
My name's Remus Lupin. It's a pleasure to meet you ... ?

Ah ... so I suppose it changes with the seasons then.
It's quite remarkable, though Hogwarts is just as grand as this...

So then ... where exactly is Paradise located? I've never heard of such a place.
