Case 15: the missing victorian

[For anyone on the sixth floor near James's room the sound of music like this or at least from the same era, has been heard all day. In fact the source is pretty obvious as he has the sound cranked up on some new stereo system, yes a stereo system not his record player, and really doesn't care.

Nor does he care that his Sandshrew and Glameow have decided to camp out in the hallway to avoid the worst of the noise, though the Sandshrew has been forced into a little leather vest and the Glameow a spiked collar.

And the music is heard as he flips open the journal to talk, as he's refusing to turn it down for the moment yup.]

I thought you'd all like something to get rid of the quiet and whatever trash you listen to that you call music. My gift to you, until the Feast. [Enjoy.]

[...W.A.T. She's just standing in her doorway, staring at this. She doesn't really know what 'punk' is, but even if she did, it wouldn't change how confused she currently is]

[Buuut unfortunately Zelos is so quiet that the sounds of A Flock of Seagulls makes his voice completely drowned out by their beats]

Why would I need to get drunk to do this? Really, it's like you don't know me.

James, nice tunes. I can't think anything better to get these killjoys in the right mood for the Feast. All this silence is driving me crazy.

[There might be a few singe marks on the page from his cigarette ash landing on the page, which he wipes off.]

Okay, you're obviously sick, or on a loss, or deranged, or possibly all three so I'll let that one slide. This time.

[Still, she'll be stalking over to turn the music off] But some of us have sensitive hearing, so stop that.

[God, James, why do you have to go weird so close to Hogswatch. She wanted a happy Hogswatch with the people she loves, why you gotta be this way man]

[And then there's an almost clapping sound as he high fives himself as his bro isn't in his room :/]

You'd think with these things they'd know better. Really.

[And some clinking sounds now as he gathers up beer bottles.] Where are you?

In the lobby, hanging around. [More accurately laying on a couch, getting ash all over and leaving burn marks in the couch.]

Where else would I be in this damned castle? It's so boring.

I remember you being a lot more fun at parties then this. [Or maybe he's just remembering things wrong thanks to too much music and booze. Oh well that gets a shrug as she turns the music off, and he tilts his chair back, resting his feet on his desk as he raises up a remote...

And how about you just get earplugs or something? Or those like, noise canceling headphone things, Tesla's gotta have them somewhere.

[He's sorry Mal, he wanted to be a nice guy for Hogswatch and spend it with you too >: Just blame the castle.]

[ WHY ARE PEOPLE SO LOUD. This is not very nice ahhh- his ears.

So even if the noise of an unhappy Altaria and cat are drowned out by the music, here is his reply. After a hastily scribbled filter to make sure no one else gets caught in this.

A long math formula. The handwriting isn't the best - Duke can't exactly see what he's doing, but..

He's pretty sure he set it up properly. If ignored, and the volume level remains unchanged - or grows, which would be even worse - it will do that horrible feedback noise. If the page is touched, the 'James' on the other end will find the sensation a bit like someone delivering a static shock.

He's not happy with all this loud stuff going through the journal, okay. ]

How should I know, not like I stalk you or something. [Dude he doesn't care, he's totally trashed his room by now.

And then he sounds a little excited.]

Come up to my room, I've got drinks [Booze] and tunes. We can rock out and ignore everyone. Just ignore the cat and walking armored rat thing outside the door.

[BECAUSE THEY CAN BE GOSH.

And well the noises go ignored because they can, and so does the long math formula (ugh math whyyyy).

So it's only when the feedback noise is loud and proud going on that he yells before turning down the stereo.]

HEY who did that? What was that for?

[A snort.] Like you could stalk me.

And that sounds like an actual party! I'll be up.

[And sure enough, a few minutes later your bro is barging into your room. His hair is dyed a bright pink, a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, with ripped up jeans and band t-shirt that has seen way better days. he's got rings all over his fingers and a long earring dangling off of one ear. he raises a hand in greeting, taking his cigarette out of his mouth a blowing a smoke ring at James.]

Yo, bro.

Oh please, brains remember? [He totally could have been a genius inventor but alas, music called *^*

And bro! James's hair is dyed blue, and the tattered jeans, vest and t-shirt have seen much better days. But the mohawk is fine, it's his pride and joy okay?

But he has his back to Giotto as he fixes up something on a stereo (ultra stereo for the Feast bro, it's serious business) and just casually waves at him over his head.]

Yo! Beer's that way [His pinking pointing in one direction.] Munchies that way. [His thumb the other.] And tunes all the way around. [AND he's shaking his hand in greeting.

...Yes he planned this out to do that deliberately shush, he's a dork.]

Magical flame powers, remember?

[Giotto takes his hand and rolls his eyes at that. You're his bro, but you are so uncool.] You are such an idiot.

[He wanders over to get a beer first, popping off the cap and chugging it.]

You gotta hit me first.

[...which isn't hard but sshhh. And dude, he's just a brainy rocker, that's to be expected.] As if you're better.

[Pfft, but whatever, turning around in his chair now to watch.] Some idiot messed with it, gave some nasty feedback. [And now he's worried about his precious stereo equipment ;;.]

[ BUT EVERYONE ELSE'S POOR EARS...

He's not that stupid. He's just going to add a little bit more to that math - If the volume goes up, so does the feedback noise. If the volume goes down, the noise goes away. And then he'll shut his end of the journal~.

Obviously the way around this is to chuck the journal out in the hall, or somewhere where the noise isn't that loud to begin with... ]

Way better than you. [He's hopping up and sitting on your table, James.]

And what'd you do to the idiot who messed with it? [Someone touch James' stereo equipment and get away with it? Their room would be graffiti-ed within the hour.]

[WHO CARES...

And well that's okay, because after some digging and experimenting that it's the journal causing this (including the shocks and shutting the journal, stupid thing :|), he finds a soundproof box that his normal self uses for experiments.

And sticks it in there and then sits back to his music, which he cranks up even louder.

Can't beat a genius bro /shades.]

Whatever. [Waving his hand at you, bro, but he doesn't mind as he tilts his chair onto it's back legs to put his feet on his table.]

I don't know who did it, it just stopped when I shoved the magic book in a box. [A soundproof box, because magic spells need soundproofing to stop working, or something...] So I'm trying to figure out how to make this louder to get back at'em.

[ But see, he's in a tower. And the noise isn't going through the journal anymore...

Sooo... its all good. ]

We should just go find out who it is and trash their room. Easier than making the music even louder. Though I'm not complaining if you do make it louder.

You're right we should. [Nods, lots of nodding.] If they didn't want to hear it over the journals, they're not on this floor. [No duh James.]
