[Five - Right Through The Eye ] [Dictated]
[The journal flips open to the sound - captured very snazzily to paper - of an arrow flying through a target. There is the solid 'thunk!' of metal meeting soft stuffing, and a quiet sound of someone humming approval. Katniss walked across the broad expanse of the shooting range, fetching her arrows out of the target, one after the other, and then strode back to where the journal lay open.]
[Grey eyes opened a little wide when she saw it open, but she shook her head. Why was she even surprised any longer? So she walks over, speaking right into it.]
Shooting range is open for anyone who feels like they're getting rusty. And I'm still offering lessons in self defense and shooting, so come on by.
[She plucked an arrow out of her quiver, and sent it through the target it again.]
Getting bored, just beating my old records.

Re: Dictated
Who says I haven't?

Dictated
[She's grinning now, as she runs to the office to check his current record.]

Re: Dictated
NOT quite yet ... but you should be ready. I'm coming up on your heels. In fact, I might even beat it today.
Dictated
[And there's a small clattering sound as he's getting ready.]
Re: Dictated
Oh, I look forward to it.

[And he grabs his journal.]
Down in five.

[She grinned as she started to limber up. She couldn't laze off when competing with Clint.]
Dictated -> Action
And about seven minutes later, Barton's walking into the shooting range, looking a bit flushed having jogged here.
He needs to train in other ways, y'know.]
Action
You know, if you're out of breath just running from the castle, maybe we should worry less about your aim and more about your cardio.
Action
[He unclasps his bow case and takes it, flipping it out fully.]
Perfect warmup.
Re: Action
[Her voice is wry, as she picks up her own bow, shaking her head at his.]
Show-off.
[She is smirking when she says it, though.] What's the record, Barton?
Action
Halfway through Katniss's broadcast, the young wizard walks in with - what is this? - her own training bow. She pauses, seeing Katniss there, then chuckles.]
You never struck me as the advertising type.
Re: Action
You get as bored as I am right now, you look for just about anything to do. [Her eyes fall on Dairine's bow, and brighten.] Here for your lesson?
no subject
[He smirks.]
And you don't know? Disappointing. Thought that was your job.
[He's walking past her to take up a position.]
no subject
[She stretched her arms out, limbering them, before she arched an eyebrow at him.]
Oh, I know. I'm just wondering if you do. That way you'll know when I blow you out of the water.
Action
[Dairine glances at her bow before looking back at Katniss's hopeful expression. Oh, right. The lessons. Sheepishly she rubs her neck.] Actually I thought I'd practice a bit, but if you have any pointers, I'll take 'em.
Re: Action
Oh. [Damn. She did brighten a little at that.] Sure, go on and set your shots. I'll ... retire the field, do some of the billing for the course. Just let me know if you need any help.
no subject
[He takes an arrow from his quiver, notching it.]
We gonna keep talking, or get down to me beating you again?
no subject
Age before beauty.
Re: Action
[Dairine gives Katniss a sort of confused "what-the-what" stare.] Billing? [Oh, nevermind. Dari gives Kat a half salute as she goes over to the supplies area to pick up some arrows.] Will do.
Re: Action
Y'know. The books. What I charge people to use the range and the equipment.

[He draws back, shooting, getting a bulls-eye.]
no subject
Nah. Pretty sure I meant the first thing.

Allen's probably gonna kick me out of here, soon. You want some company?
no subject
[A long pause.]
... How is she?
no subject
There are bruises on her now. Bruises she didn't have. They show up like something invisible is hurting her. No matter how long I sit with her, how much -
[she's helpless and he cannot protect her. that's what he can't bear to say, not aloud. to say it will be to have truly failed.]

What can I do?

[and with that, he'll start to make his way out to the range]

So what's the record?

Re: Action
I see. [Dairine had assumed that it was a free service (not that money was an issue), mostly because Barton usually was with her. Oh well.
After chosing her target, she begins to set up.]
Re: Action
It's a minimal charge. Food, supplies. There's no money so what's the point of that? Besides, I never traded in money before, I won't do it now.
[She rubbed her fingertips together as she went to get them.]
Action
There's money, though there's little point to a monetary system when someone could wish up a whole bunch of caisos on the spot. Panem uses a bartering system, right?
[She pulls back her first arrow and fires. It hits the target near the edge, further down than she wanted. An annoyed "tch," then Dairine fits the next arrow and pulls back. Her arm is straight... but slightly tilted down.]
no subject
I'd worry about you if you didn't think you were. I'm amazed there's anyone that's better than you in the first place.
Re: Action
[Katniss came back with the book, taking out her pen to keep accounts. She eyed Dairine, and intoned.] Arm up. [Before she settled down on her favorite rock.]

Action
[Arghdlwh... Dairine lifts her arm to a better height and shoots. This time she comes within centimeters of the bulls-eye.] Oh. [She'll be shooting off a few more arrows now, trying to reach that center circle.]
