And Zoe, being very determined to get out of here, had decided to try to rig her door up with explosions- nothing too heavy but definitely enough to blow up a door. She's taking cover when they go off and there's silence for a moment as she waits for dust to clear]

Oh! Uh, psychokinetic energy readings, mostly - they measure the energy output of the castle and any other supernatural beings or phenomenon. It's what the meter's for. [he jerks a thumb towards it, then wishes up a pack of beef jerky and starts idly feeding the dino as he talks]

Unfortunately the change was too old to leave behind enough of an energy signature to be significant, but I still have soil, tree, and plant samples to go through. Maybe the structure of the stuff around the border was affected somehow ...

[he pauses, watching the compy gnaw at the jerky, and frowns] But I'm probably borin' you, huh. You never told me how you ended up with this little guy...

What is it?

It's a video game console -- you plug it in and hook it up to the TV and it lets you play games. Some of them are like obstacle courses, and some of them are puzzles, and some are more like target practice, where you have to shoot things - but you do it all with these little controllers with buttons on them.

[as he's saying this, he's unpacking it all] ... Yeah, this is definitely a newer system. See all the buttons? Back home, the one we've got only has five - one pad for all four directions, and four other buttons.

[he turns the controller over in his hands]
