[ After the kitchen proves a bust, he starts climbing the stairs. He will barge in your room, Allen, don't think he won't. ]


[ Much later in the day, Gwaine flips open the journal to dictate in a quick, neutral tone: ]

Arthur Pendragon has returned to Camelot.

Him, too? [There's a crack in her voice. Dany, and now Arthur? She thought she wouldn't have to deal with losing people so much here.]

Does Allen know? And Morgana? [Because this could get messy. And that actually sounds like real concern in his voice]

Of course, they do. I told them first.

[impetuous]

[ Oh, fuck, small child. Arthur did this on purpose. How does I children. His tone gentles. ]

Him too. His people need him.

[ He finds her sitting in front of her vanity still in her bedclothes, hands fiddling with a ring.

She does not move when he enters nor does she really respond, she simply sits and stares at the ring. It is a piece in a puzzle she can't quite figure out, or perhaps subconsciously does not want to figure it out. ]

Gwaine

[onlyanapple]

That's something, at least.

[Pause] How about you? He was your leader.

[impetuous]

[ He recognizes the ring. How couldn't he. Whether this makes it easier or harder he doesnt know.

Sighing, Gwaine shuts the door behind him. He kneels beside her and strokes her cheek with the back of his hand. ]

[scinlae]

[ The touch is enough to snap her from her trance, she blinks turning her head to look at him. She manages a smile, though it is tired and worn (for a number of a different reasons). ]

Crowley

[impetuous]

I wouldn't risk having the castle burnt down. Cathartic as it might be, we'd all end up a little worse for wear. [ The attempt at a joke falls flat.

Gwaine pinches the bridge of his nose. He takes a moment to sigh. ]

He still is. I've still a duty.

[impetuous]

Good morrow, fair lady. [ He brushes her hair back. ] You look tired. Nightmares again?

[Allen was sitting at his desk, looking up only when he hears Gwaine barge into the room]

Gwaine?

Yes. [ Lying would not aid her, so long as he does not ask what about she is content with telling the truth. ] I will be fine, I have lived with nightmares most of my life.

[ She lets go of the ring, placing it down onto the wood of her vanity. ]

What brings you here?

[impetuous]

[ Oh great, he's already sitting. Gwaine closes the door, taking a brief moment to pull himself together.

Third time and this is still not any easier. ]

Arthur's gone.

[Yeah he's there and the grunt, followed by a thump is enough proof of it. Then it takes him a few moments to get to the door and when he does Gwaine will see a worn down man, who looks as if he hasn't slept the last few days.

Though when he sees Gwaine he can't help but raise an eyebrow and be well himself.] What brings a knight to a sorcerers domain? [But he does shift to let Gwaine in, his counterpart back home had done him no wrong and he doubts this one will either.]

[ He glances at the ring. He breathes in, trying to quell the tumult he feels long enough to speak. When he manages it, he's quiet and wholly unlike himself. His thumb caresses her cheek. ]

Arthur's gone, Morgana.

[poor gwaine; there's a surprised pause. Then-]

From the castle?

[impetuous]

[ Gwaine smiles, but it's totally devoid of amusement. He gratefully steps inside. The conversation isn't meant for other ears and he's guessing Merlin doesn't want to be seen. Any comments he may have on the other man's appearance he keeps to himself. ]

What else but the king?

[impetuous]

[ His life sucks. News at eleven. ]

Yes.

Gwaine

[onlyanapple]

I'm sure no one wants that. You're a saint.

And you'll keep it on here in Paradisa? Noble.

[kingsgambit]

[No he doesn't, and he's trying his best to stay out of trouble as a favor to Morgana. Since Igraine has asked her to look after him he'll make her life easy for now.

So once Gwaine is inside he shuts the door and waves him towards an actually clean bench where the rest of the room is a mess of scribbles, crates and bottles, a faint scowl on his face.] Don't tell me the boy's run off now that his mother's left.

[scinlae]

[ Arthur's gone, Morgana.

Her lips twitch into a laugh but the noise never leaves her mouth, this is jest truly. Arthur couldn't have ─ ]

Gone? [ There is a tremble in her voice that she did not expect, it surprises her much like the tears that begin to sting her eyes. ]

Crowley

[impetuous]

Morgana is still here.

...I see.

[he turns to look away from Gwaine, staring off to the side. It's almost like he's waiting for the tears to come, the hysteria, the crushing emotions, but...]

[It doesn't come.]

[And he doesn't even have to wonder why...he's already said goodbye to Arthur a thousand times. To the memories, to the presence in his life, to the man he once knew.]

[If anything, he feels....relief, as twisted as it sounds. Like a ghost is finally gone]

[He'll look back at Gwaine]

Are you all right?

[impetuous]

Still standing, aren't I?

[ It's not an answer. He doesn't know what is his answer. ]

[impetuous]

In a manner of speaking. [ A pause. ] He's gone from the castle. He's returned to Camelot. [ His smile is a mockery of one. ] At least, I hope he's returned to Camelot.
