Welcome to Paradisa

[As with almost all sudden changes that take place in Paradisa, it happens at the stroke of midnight.

Everything is different.

The castle itself hasn't changed at all, of course. It's the same as it was at 11:59 PM. Someone's late dinner is still spinning in the microwave, another's stereo is still playing softly in the background. Everything is just as it should be for Paradisa.

It's another story entirely for the residents. On a whim, the castle has decided to have a little fun with them. But don't worry, it's only temporary.

Each resident's memories of the castle have simply vanished. The last moments they recall take place in the world they call home. In fact, it happens so suddenly that it's almost as if they've just suddenly appeared in this strange castle.

To them, they've just arrived.
All of them.

What's a sentient castle to do with so many new arrivals? Why, welcome them, of course!

Above the grand staircase is a simple banner that reads "Welcome to Paradisa."

That's about all the information it's giving.]

The Morning After...

To think all of five days fluttered away in what might felt like just a day for the residents. Only yesterday the enemy showed its face only to be defeated, and today, the sleeping residents wake to a brave new world.

The castle itself seems much the same if not for that renewed spark of beauty in everything. The glittering veneer has returned. Every sweeping staircase, every turn of the hallway and every glint of sunlight against the windows would take your breath away. Paradisa defines its very name today.

But the greatest change will be felt by those venturing out to the City Royale, now brought centuries back to be reminiscent of the Middle Ages. Even here the air smells of hope and rebirth and the townspeople speak of the recently defeated enemy like an ancient piece of history that they are rightfully proud of. The Steward, they say, is planning to erect a statue to commemorate it but he has been busy on city matters. Far too busy. It can wait.

Paradisa, after all, seems to care little for trivialities such as time.

Haven't you seen a spindle before?

And haven't you seen how dull and dreary the castle seems of late? The white walls seem almost grey and the marble floors have lost their shine. Even the chandeliers seem made of grimy glass. Perhaps that drowsy spell has even the mighty castle in its grasp. What a thought!

But today the sleepers have risen, all of them feeling an indelible call to shuffle and stumble toward the Insolitus. There is something most precious to them hiding behind that named door, and they would do all they can to protect it. Their eyes may be closed shut, their movements hindered by sleep, but they are keenly aware of anyone seeking to harm their most beloved treasure.

Voices of many sleepers, all of them monotonous, speak in unison:

“ You should have let sleeping dogs lie. ”

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

All that clamor from the lion dance prancing down the halls should be enough to draw attention to the party, even without actual invitations. If not the noise, then perhaps the delicious smell wafting under every door and leading back to the ballroom.

The castle is vain, if nothing else. It has decorated the ballroom in the deepest red and brightest gold with auspicious greetings in the common language tastefully posted about the hall. May your happiness be without end, one says, while another goes May all your wishes be fulfilled. Small order, all things considered.

Round dining tables (with the turning glass part) are set up in the middle of the hall, each with about ten chairs and piles of food fit for a whole village. There are two more lion dance teams hopping about the hall and making a racket while occasionally nabbing that dumpling straight from your chopsticks. That should the least of your concerns, however, with many residents still aiming to settle their grudges before the new year.

Watch your back.
