2nd Ideal Sephira: Shenanigans

[so it's Valentines Day, the day where once again the castle takes an opportunity to annoy everyone. pink walls? check. sappy romantic music? check. obnoxious heart-shaped balloons? check. mute in the lobby trying to sort the chocolates the castle gave him? check.

wait, what?

yes Dextera is in the lobby today, sitting on one of the couches. he's popped open the box of chocolates he found in his room and currently is in the process of separating them into different piles - though why exactly he is doing this and which goes where is something up to debate.

or, you know, you can just walk up and ask him what he's doing. Dextera really doesn't mind company. just be careful...he may or may not have eaten a few of the chocolates already. guess he doesn't know not to trust the stuff the castle leaves out...]

What's this for? [is there some logic to the sorting she has yet to find out...]

[hum...? oh hello there. give him a second to get his journal out so he can write a response.]

They taste different. Trying to find which ones taste the same.

[there were some he liked and some he didn't, though it'd probably help Dextera more if he knew the names of the chocolates to begin with.]

Good idea. [she was too suspicious of something that in all likelihood came from the castle to eat any, but if he did, well, it's a big box] Have you been at it since you received these?

Yes. They keep coming back when I eat them.

[which is weird because he knows when you eat something they're supposed to stay gone.

that said, he holds out the box that still has some unsorted.]

You can have one too.

Oh! Um. [DUBIOUS CASTLE THING...though she can't up with any good reason to refuse...awkward pause]

Don't mind if I do, then.

[and she reaches out to take one from the nearest pile]

[there really is plenty left over, though Dextera may or may not have accidentally put different ones into the wrong piles since he couldn't put a name to the taste. in other words, pick your own ~~fail~~ adventure.]

They taste good. A little funny but good.

[the most sinister things take on the most deceptive of appearances, she elects not to say, "hn"-ing equivocally]

Yeah, you're right. [in fact, she feels...happy...? Do endorphins even work so quickly???]

[Dextera seems pretty happy himself, though having eaten eleven or more chocolates probably did the trick.]

It's a really nice feeling. I think I like it.

[he'd put an exclamation mark there if he knew what that was. still, it feels like :D on overdrive.]

[is she smiling? ...no, it is all but a grin]

We should do this again another time. Just you and me.

[and for some reason, asking him out seems like a wonderful idea]

[yes it is a wonderful idea!]

[even if he has no idea what he's agreeing too anyways.]

Sayaka, a pleasure. [taking a moment to fetch a pen and write it at some free space on the page] It's spelled this way.

[he writes it out once himself to make sure he has it before smiling.]

It's nice to meet you Sayaka.

[Felix notes Dextera's presence as he is passing by and stops to frown at this strange behavior]

What are you doing?

[this probably isn't the weirdest thing you've seen him doing Felix...

but Dextera looks up after placing one of the chocolates in a different pile and grabbing his journal.]

Sorting, I think. They all taste different.

[meaning yes, there is someone still dumb enough to trust the castle.]

How many did you eat?

[give him a minute to count it out on his hands.]

Eleven. They don't taste that bad.

[no really, they don't! even if he does feel a little funny looking at you right now Felix. don't mind being stared at for a bit.]

[Being stared at is nothing new, where Felix as concerned, so he doesn't quite realize the reason for it yet, though he's definitely frowning at the boy as if he's expecting something bad to happen any moment now.]

I'm sure they don't. It's usually what happens after that is the problem. How do you feel?

[he stops staring for a minute to think about it.]

Fuzzy. Kind of good when I look at you.

[and there's a pause when his brain oh so helpfully nudges Dextera in the not-so-right direction.]

It's love, I think.

[granted, he doesn't know what that actually means. but that's the word that he knows matches the feeling.]

[The look on his face is vaguely horrified]

I don't...I'm not sure...do you even know what that means?

[given the fact it takes him a second to respond the answer is probably no.]

Someone from back home told me once. It's nice to actually feel it.

[even if the explanation was kind of crooked due to everyone not actually being able to feel a thing.]

[He's not sure what to say to that. He may never have expressed it openly, but he's felt love many times before, in many forms, and it doesn't seem possible that Dextera hasn't]

I'm sure you've felt it before...

[if he had it was probably during that child loss from before. otherwise he can't remember. there was the Absolute God's kind which was insanity and the Meta-Beings which was death. all in all it was something everyone had forgotten, probably for the better.]

I don't know. It's for someone important and you are important like

[he stops writing and rubs his head. thanks for the sudden headache Paradisa, he needed that. but there's something else.]

[he's serious here. he'd like to.]

[he could feel it fading now like his memories did. Dextera wasn't completely sure he wanted it to leave.]

[He gives Dextera a slightly strained by genuine smile, as he pats the boy on the head]

Tell you what, however. If you still feel the same later, come see me, and you can have that kiss.

[he was half listening at this point, more focused on the feeling fading away. a part of him wanted to reach out and grab it and pull it back into him. it felt good, castle created feeling or not, and it felt warm. a warmth Dextera couldn't recognize for the life of him. a warmth that he liked, that he wanted.

....he really was growing selfish when he had no right to, wasn't he?

Dextera can't help the flinch when Felix touches him, a reaction he had yet to work out of his system. he closes his eyes when the feeling finally leaves, sighing, and when the mute opens his eyes again his face is perfectly blank. this is not something he can deal with quite yet with his lack of understanding anything.

or maybe it was something Dextera just didn't want to deal with at all.]

Okay. I'll ask then.

[It hurt a little, to turn Dextera down. He wasn't quite sure what to make of that look. Disappointment or anger didn't quite seem to fit it exactly, though he was never very good at telling either way. How could he begin to explain that the difficulty was all his?

The worst part, however, was the thought - the slight impulse - he had, to offer him a consoling embrace. And he couldn't bring himself to do it. There were too many ways it could go wrong. Too many ways he wasn't ready for that kind of casual contact with another person.]

[it's not anger. Dextera was well and truly unable to work his way up to getting angry at someone, no matter what they did. it probably wasn't disappointment either, or it wasn't directed at Felix at any rate. it probably was guilt like usual and a bad headache. or was it his heart that hurt? Dextera didn't know.]

It's okay. I asked.

[don't blame yourself. Dextera knew how badly that hurt better than most people.]

[He smiled faintly, a little sad, and tucked his arms against his chest uneasily]

Like I told you, it's always alright to ask questions.

That said, I...recommend you don't eat any more of those. If you like, I can buy you some more in town that will be safe.

[yeah that's....probably the best idea he's heard all day. he'll be sticking the rest into the box before writing again.]

[sure thing! he'll gather up his stuff and stick the box of chocolates in his pocket until he finds a place to throw them out before standing up.
