It's a game construct of SBURB, through which the players are cloned or created in a laboratory using genetic samples.
It's all a bit convoluted, I'm afraid, but it's the process responsible for each of our "births".

This sort of thing is in a video game?
No way! Not in a million years is that even possible, and I know Sburb is one humdinger of an expectation-breaker!

If you're going to list off all the impossible and bizarre aspects of Sburb and then ask me why it's not perfectly reasonable for ecto-babblewhatsis to exist as well, please don't.
There is drawing conclusions and then there is just plain silly, and I know both of those quite well.

It's all a bit complicated, as is any other aspect of SBURB, but try to think of it as a direct role reversal merely for the sake of ease.
In the role of parent or guardian, two members of the group will always be older, while in the role of child the ages are the same across the board.
Thus, when the places are reversed and the guardian becomes child, the age difference no longer applies.

Try not to approach it in terms of genetics, but rather that of guardianship.
When our session was Scratched, the meteors that carried ourselves and our guardians to Earth altered their destinations - not geographically, but chronologically.
It is not a matter of understanding genetic relations, but rather of a seeing the repercussions of a different set of meteors striking Earth in 1995 and 1996.
A set that, in our own universe, arrived quite a bit earlier.
