Dear Magic Journal,

I think I've lost my comfiest pair of socks. I'm really upset about it because I've looked everywhere. I wonder if someone took them? I wanted to wear them to bed.

Oh well. Hey, I just thought of a puzzle I can ask everyone later! I better write it down for next time:

"You are about to leave for holiday, but you forgot socks! You race back to your room, but all the lights are off, so you can't see the color of the socks.

Never mind, because you remember that in your drawer there are ten pairs of white socks, ten pairs of black socks, and eleven pairs of blue socks, but they are all mixed up.

How many of your socks do you need to take before you can be sure to have at last one matching pair?"

Why don't you just, like, grab them all or something?

Yeah, well why does it have to be a puzzle? If you need socks, grab socks. It's not that hard.

Because it's more fun if it's a puzzle? And besides, if you just grab socks there's no telling whether you've grabbed a matching pair.

That's why you bring your bag back with you and just shove all the socks in there. I mean, if I'm going on vacation I'm gonna want more than one pair of matching socks.

Eh? Why wouldn't you care? You'd like pretty silly wearing one blue sock and one white sock.
