Episode 107

I thought I understood, but I guess I still needed a lesson. Maybe it's just been too long. I forgot. But I get it now.

This place... What's it really doing to us? All of these things that happen, the experiences we have, why bother? What's the point if not to help us grow and change? If it even means to help at all.

Thanks, Peter. I'm really surprised by this place, sometimes. Back home, I used to get dirty looks just for looking the way I do, since I look just like him. Here though...I've told people about what's going on with me, and no one cares.

Yeah! There's a mutant where I come from...he used to be a teacher, called Banshee. He can scream really loud, and at any frequency he wants. I figure if I shapeshift my lungs, ears, and vocal chords, I could do it too. I just need to practice.

No problem. I think this place changes things for a lot of peoploe.

Hmm. It's not a bad thing to test out, but be careful about shapeshifting. Someone from my world had that ability and he struggled with it.

Yeah. I mean...I was trying really hard to do the right thing and be a better person back home, but it felt like...like no one really believed in me, you know? Like everyone thought I was doomed to just become another Apocalypse. Here though, I really feel like I have a chance to be better than that.

Yeah, I could see that. If I try a bunch of shifts all at once I tire out really quickly, I've learned, and holding big changes for a long time is really hard. I'll just have to keep an eye on how long I hold a change, make sure I change back to give myself a break.

You absolutely have that chance, Evan. I know having a lot of power can be scary, but it can be wonderful, too. You can do so much good with it. I'll teach you how, and then you won't have to worry about Apocalypse.

That'll be great. I mean...my Uncle Cluster used to tell me that I'm capable of anything I set my mind to, so maybe now I can test that, see what I'm really capable of.

Your uncle is right. When do you want to start?

Whenever's best for you, but I think the sooner we start the better.

How about later today? I can meet you in front of the Danger Room?

That'd be great! If it's anything like the Danger Room back home, it'll be just what I need to experiment with my powers.

I wouldn't know if it is, but I guess we'll find out together.

Well, the Danger Room back home was pretty much the whole school at different times, so in a way, Paradisa by itself is a lot like the Danger Room, heh. I remember reading though, that the old Xavier Institute had a dedicated Danger Room, that used hard-light holograms and robot drones and stuff to simulate different scenarios for the X-Men to prepare for. When they weren't doing regular classes, that's where they'd go to train their powers.

Hm. This Danger Room does have holograms and programs for training, so I guess it is a little like the one you know.

Probably helps that the name "Danger Room" is something from my world. I'm betting that someone from my world probably built it, or wished for it bit by bit way back when.

It's been here for as long as I can remember. So, you interested in testing it out?

Definitely! I've got some other ideas for what I can do with my powers, too. Something a bit more abstract, I think. Man, I'm really starting to look forward to this!

Great. Give me a time when you want to get started and I'll meet you at the Danger Room.

How about right before supper? Say...about 4 o'clock maybe?
