I feel like I should just make a blanket apology for everything I do here. Someone's always gonna be annoyed. [ usually she'll end up being annoyed at herself. ] So yeah, let's just pretend last month didn't happen, okay?

On that note, I didn't really appreciate being old. I like being me. [ mostly. there's also the issue that death aside, she'll never be old. this is just an extra reminder that her afterlife is awful and she's annoyed with everything. ]

Unrelated, what's the outside world like? Outside the castle, whatever anyone else knows. I've been outside a little, but I don't know a whole lot. So. Who wants to be my informant?

Aside from that... how many people have special powers, abilities, whatever? How did you find out about them and how do you deal with them?

[ she's going to take a walk around the castle though today and at some point can be found in a hallway staring from one end to the other like she wants to do something but doesn't know quite how or if she should. ]

Are you referring to information about the town, or are you looking to go further than that?

I'm what's called a "mutant" in my world. That is, someone who's born with the special "X" gene, that gives me unique powers. I found out when I was about 12 years old, when my Uncle Cluster told me.

As for dealing with them...I'm still figuring that out. My powers are a part of me, but sometimes they might scare people. I was...actually going to a school for mutants before I came here, so I could both learn how to control my powers, and get a regular education.

Let's start with the town. One step at a time.

Can I ask what they are? You don't have to tell me, obviously. [ she's just curious. and she wants to know if there's hope of dealing with her own. ] That whole school thing is kinda cool, though. Nice to know there's a support system. [ and oh how she wishes she had one. ]

I'm a vampire, and I was born one. As for dealing...well, that depends on what part you mean. Mostly? A lot of self restraint.

But you had time to deal with it. It wasn't something you suddenly... woke up to.

[ so, different from her situation and yet somewhat similar. she doesn't have the self-restraint issue; she's got the issue of acknowledging it at all and she's not sure which is worse. ]

Yup. I can...umm...control every part of my body down to the molecular level. That's what my doctor back home told me. I can sort of shapeshift with it, make my arms longer and stuff like that, and I can channel destructive energy through my eyes and hands. My Uncle Cluster used to tell me that I was capable of anything I set my mind to.

[Evan is kind of an extreme case of mutation, but that's all to do with his genetic donor, En Sabah Nur.]

Yeah, the Jean Grey School is great! I mean...there are mutants like me, but then we had alien students too, Broo and Kubark. I don't know where I'd be if I hadn't been there.

That's... really cool. I mean, the school part. The powers are cool, too, but I bet those can be both good and bad.

Yeah. I have trouble controlling them sometimes, I'm still learning, but I've got people here that are willing to help me, which is more than I could've hoped for, y'know?

I did and I didn't, I guess. I had friends, but a lot of people expected the worst out of me, so I had to spend a lot of time trying to prove people wrong.

Yeah. Having people to help is a great thing. And sometimes having something to prove wrong is a great motivator. [ not that she knows that one from experience. ]

So I guess you're doing all right, then.

[Maladict lets out a sigh. She knows Ashley's situation, James explained it to her, but she's more tactful than to bring it up]

No, I didn't suddenly wake up to it. I suppose I was lucky in that regard.

[ it's a bad situation all around and ashley would undo it in a heartbeat if she could. ]

Yeah, I guess so. Just kinda wondering how long that sort of thing takes. Getting used to things.

It might be you never get used to it. It depends on who you surround yourself with. If you're with people who can and more importantly will help you.

I can go into something called Hyper Dying Will Mode. [No, he did not name it, Ashley.] It uses this energy that some people in my version of Earth are born with called flames.

I suppose I was born with the ability, but I didn't always know I had it.

There you go then, not all is lost yet.

So how did you deal with it when you found out? I mean, it doesn't sound like anything bad.

You say that like it's so easy. Kinda hard when you weren't born with it.

So named because you need to have a dying will to slip into it. [How to explain this... ~~gdi shounen manga powers~~] Dying will is a will to accomplish something, even if you were to die. You become more focused and confident, less inhibited, unafraid of anything... All you can think about is fulfilling what you set out do.

At first, I was more confused and wary than anything. I didn't exactly expect anything like... that. [It was exhilarating, and at the same time could be utterly terrifying, losing that control over yourself.]

True, I have no experience of that. Maybe someone else here has. It's a big castle, after all.

A lot of people here have special abilities. I found out about mine just by experiencing it. I was born with it, and one day it manifested.

I've had my power for a while. I'm used to it; it's just a part of who I am. I know that probably doesn't answer the question, but everyone deals differently.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I've been working really hard, trying to see what I'm capable of.

I think so, yeah. I wasn't doing so great when I got here, but I think I've gotten used to things here now.

Well, I guess I have some. Kind of a born-with-it deal, but I guess my parents told me when I was six or seven.

[A moment of thought.]

It's not something I ever thought I needed to "deal with". I mean, I'm pretty much like super okay with it.

It wasn't much fun being a nurse either, I can tell you that much.
