Third tooth mark

[Seeing as most of the other residents spent a large amount of their time in Holly Peaks complaining about the food Sunny has decided that it's clear that they are in need of something delicious to eat.

So this morning she finds herself in the kitchen making breakfast. She's standing on a chair by the stove making French Toast. A LOT of French Toast. There's already a large stack on the counter ready for whoever would like it, syrup and powdered sugar close at hand.

Good morning, Paradisa. There's a 2 year old in the kitchen cooking. WAT DO?!]

[Sunny's guardian plods in in his pajamas and dressing gown and slippers - what, it's publicly acceptable, and it is the weekend, he is allowed to be lazy. he is in search of tea, of course, but when he finds her standing there, he is pleasantly surprised]

Good morning, Sunny. That looks delicious, though I do wish you'd asked for a little assistance in lighting the stove.

[Why hello best guardian ever! Sunny turns and smiles at Lemony, not even caring about the fact that he's still in his pajamas. It is, after all, morning on the weekend. She waves with the spatula before pointing at the stove.]

Edison. [Which obviously means, "It's alright, Mr. Snicket. It's an electric stove. Don't worry, I know better than to play with matches or any sort of flammable materials without proper adult supervision."]

Oh! Fair enough, then. [he smiles] As long as you're being careful. Shall I at least help you set the table?

[She smiles and nods.]

Gracias ["That would be very helpful thank you."]

[he goes through the drawers and is about to pick out forks and knives, when something occurs to him]

Are you expecting several people? Perhaps a buffet style setting is in order.

[She shrugs. She hadn't sent out invitations or anything. In fact she hadn't really thought further ahead than the actual making of the french toast.]

spansas. [Or rather "Buffet style might be better since I don't know how many people might want to eat."]

As you wish, then. [he smiles at her, and starts to gather some attractive vases and large glasses from the cupboards to set the silverware in.]

I'm not sure if you've come across anything about the art of table-setting, but for informal buffets like this one, presentation is the most important thing.

[she looks up at him, regarding him curiously]

Presentation? [Or rather "I had no idea that was the most important thing. What is the best way to set up a table for such an event?"]

Yes. There's a balance between arranging things so that they are both easily accessible by your guests, and pleasing to the eye. Silverware should be grouped here, like so....

[he sets spoons, forks, and knives in the assorted vases, then gathers a large pile of paper napkins] And now, I should think, a glass is in order. Just one, a nice sturdy drinking glass from the cupboard...

[She pauses in her cooking to watch him. It really is interesting, and she's somewhat unsurprised that he knows all of this. He seems to know quite a bit about seemingly random things.]

Uno? [Or rather "Just one glass?"]

... Sunny, while I enjoy a whimsical, simple-to-play card game as well as anyone else, now is not the time. We must finish setting the table and cooking breakfast.

[hey, even good translators have their bad moments.]

[She sighs and makes a face at him. That's not what she saaaaaaaaiiiiiiid]

Now, as I was saying, we will need a single small glass in order to properly arrange the napkins. [taking it from the cupboard, he sets it on the table before dividing the pile of napkins into two stacks. he then places the glass face down on one stack]

Simply press down and twist, and it fans them out, like so. Would you care to try?

[She watches him, intrigued. Well that's a neat trick. She smiles and nods at his invitation.]

Okay! [Which obviously means "yes I would very much like to try."]

[he steps aside and leaves the glass on the table, so that she can climb up on the chair and try it for herself with the other stack of napkins]

You don't need to press very hard - too much pressure, and they won't move at all. You'll just pin them against the table - which, I suppose, could be very intimidating, if napkins were sentient.

[She giggles, climbing down from the chair she had been standing on to move to the table and climb the table standing nearby so she could try this napkin twirling technique.

With a look at her guardian she put one tiny hand on the glass, putting just enough pressure on it before twisting. Hey look, she did it!]

Well done, Sunny. [he smiles, proudly] Is the food almost ready? I can finish if there are finishing touches you need to make.

[She smiles and nods. He really is perceptive, her guardian.]

Noso. [Which roughly means "It's almost done. I just need to add the powdered sugar."]

[he does try. it's good to be actually getting something right, again, really]

Excellent. Let me know if you need help with the canister.

[She nods, smiling. Getting down off the chair she walks back to her original chair and climbs up. Once back in position she reaches for the sifter, holding the handle carefully in both hands and squeezing as she sprinkles powdered sugar over the nicely plated pieces of french toast. Setting the sifter down she turns around, grinning at her guardian]

Isredi ["It's ready, Mr. Snicket. Would you like to have some?"]

Excellent job, Sunny. [he moves over to help her carry the plates to the table] It looks delicious.

[She grins, carefully passing him plates]

Gracias. ["Thank you very much, Mr. Snicket. I just hope they taste just as good as they look."]

[Chell wanders into the kitchen....And stares at that massive stack of toast. She's never had French toast before, but she takes a piece and some syrup.]

Hey Sunny.

[Sunny grins and waves at her friend. It's nice to have friends in the castle, even if they can't always understand her]

Chell! [which roughly translates to "Good morning, Chell. It's a lovely day, isn't it?"]

[Chell grins and switches her plate of toast to her other hand so she can hug Sunny. She glances out the window. The sun is shining on the snow like... well like crystal prisms of frozen water :P]

Oooh. It's nice out there.

[Oh hey hugs. Hugs are good. She likes hugs. She returns that hug with a smile. Window? Yeah that window's a little too high for her line of sight. She can see... the sky... maybe a few clouds if they drift by. She shrugs]

Weatherby [which clearly means "the weather might be nice but I can't see it very well from my current vantage point"]

[Carefully, Chell sets her plate down on the counter... And regards the window.]

Hm. That's a bit tall for you to see...I could pick you up so you'd be taller?

[It really is a pretty day, and Chell wants her friend to be able to see it.]

[Oh how kind of you, Chell! She smiles and nods, lifting her arms towards her friend]

[And Chell scoops her up, wandering toward the window so that she can peer out.]

See? Isn't it a nice day?

[Sunnyyyyy! Why so cuuuute!]

[Wow yeah it is a nice day! She grins, nodding]

Soleil [Which of course means "It really is a beautiful day. Thank you for helping me see it."]

[Chell doesn't get the words, but the grin and nod is all she needed to get the meaning.]

I like days like this. I don't know why but I do.

[Then she carefully sets her little friend back down so she can go back to cooking or munch on some toast of her own.]
