Track 1: a new beginning

[The sound of a motorcycle engine is recorded for a while, then gradually purrs to a stop.

A voice speaks, with a distinct accent and a fairly incredulous tone:]

Riding with the wind often takes me to new places, but I hadn't intended to go quite this far out of the city. [Looking around at passing townsfolk for someone who looks likely to be helpful, but no one seems to be making eye contact.] Perhaps some pretty Fraulein will stop and help me with directions back to the city of angels? I seem to have lost my way as my mind and wheels wandered.

((ooc: Open if you're in the City Royale (he's riding a motorcycle the same color as his coat), and his open journal has showed up in his pocket to record the whole encounter.))

Less safe, ja, but far more fun. There's nothing quite like the feeling of riding with the wind all around you.

[But the first part of that needs to be given more attention.] Your...world. Are you from this place originally, then? [He's not really sure he believes any of what he's hearing, but for the moment it's best to act as if it's true. Because the only other explanation is that he's hallucinating, and if he is, there's not much he can do about it.]

[He chuckles] Hardly. Just like yourself I was brought here from elsewhere. It's true it shares some superficial similarities with where I come from, at least within the city, but that's the limit of it.

Are you also from Earth?

[gratuitousgerman]

I am. Is that common, here?

[He sounds a little shell-shocked, like he can't believe he just asked that question out loud.]

You're certainly in the majority, yes. [He decided to leave out the idea of different versions of Earth, since the poor guy seemed overwhelmed enough] I believe I'm something of an outlier in that sense. Not an usual feeling for me, in that regard, but I digress...

[He held out a hand]

I'm Felix Harrowgate, by the way.

[gratuitousgerman]

...Klavier Gavin. [He shakes Felix's hand, smiling in a friendly manner, although it's a bit subdued by how confused he looks.] It's a pleasure to meet you, Herr Harrowgate.

It's generous of you to say so, under the circumstances, Mister Gavin. It will take some time for you to come to terms with your situation, I'm sure, but I can try to explain the basics to you or attempt to answer any questions you have. No guarantee on the latter, however.

Some...explanation would be very nice, I think. Assuming I'm not hallucinating all of this, I would very much appreciate knowing what I've somehow found myself entangled in.

You're not hallucinating, though you're not the first to have thought you were upon arriving. Still, it's not easy to explain in a succinct matter. As I said, however, you were taken here by the castle. It's called Cair Paradisa, though most of just call it Paradisa. I couldn't tell you where we are exactly, but as to the how, well, the general answer is magic. I'm not saying that to be flippant, either. I and many others believe this to be a matter of fact. This is due in no small part for the fact that the castle changes things rather frequently in ways no conventional laws of science can account for. It affects both the world, itself, and us, it's residents, mentally and sometimes physically. Just by coming here it has taken something valuable from you. We call it a loss. Everyone has one, but it's different for everyone.
