#005 - Crash & Fly

 A couple months ago I realized it was probably worth trying to get out of here via the sky, even though it's not too probable. I mean, other people who can fly have been here and haven't gotten out, so what were the odds? Superman didn't get out, that's for sure, but then again, if you could get out, it wouldn't mean you could get very far before you ran out of oxygen. And I say that as someone who can hold her breath for a really long time.

And after weeks of hemming and hawing, I spent, like, an hour this morning looking at the sky at all sorts of different frequencies to see if I could see where any boundary was, but guess what? Nada. Can't see anything now, just as I couldn't when I first got here. 

So just now I decided to fly straight up and see how far I could go, and guess what? Now there's a Supergirl-sized crater in the woods where I ate dirt on the return trip. Good thing for superpowers, huh? Slowed myself enough to prevent a shockwave upon impact, but I just wasn't fast enough to catch myself completely. 

I've never been so restless in my life.

I know all about being restless. I'm teaching a few people how to ride horses, so that eats up some of my time. But man, I could go for another adventure.

I'm still surprised people even use horses outside of Paradisa, seeing as most people have cars, and all.

Yeah. Whatever expedition starts up next, I will be the first to sign up.

Cars don't work out in the Dead Zone. Or powers, so we have to use the horses or walk. They were pretty glad of the exercise.

They're probably gonna get one started once the snow finally goes away.

Wow, like it's so embarrassing to be able to fall all that distance and survive! Even in my failures, I am so very cool.

Well if you have to fly around, get a coloured smoke machine and put on air show. It involves less craters.

When I hit the "barrier" you mean? No, it was like I'd been sling-shotted up and eventually hit a point where momentum couldn't take me any higher, and then I went back down.

It was the world's worst carnival ride.

I know how you feel, Kara. I've tried the same thing, stretching myself straight up into the sky, to see how high up I could get. I think I ended up looking like a pile of overcooked spaghetti by the time I was able to get myself together. It's frustrating, having all this power, but being stuck in this...bubble where we can use it.

Tell me about it. I'm used to be able to nip off to China for lunch or whatever –– not that I really do it, but I liked having the option...
