With the others off on the expedition I thought it would be a chance for some of us to get to know each other better.

I would like to invite everyone who remains to a dinner, I believe the term I've heard is pot luck. I have a few special things I've been wanting to make and I know others here are skilled at cooking, or wishing, as well.

If you are interested please let me know, I was hoping to have it this week.

I've been remiss in keeping up with you, I would like to catch up and talk. If it won't disturb your work too much I would love to stop by.

Why is it called a pot luck?

[ that's what she's most curious about at the moment. she might, however, be interested in turning up to this dinner thing. curiosity over earth foods. oh yes. ]

It was originally a tradition of offering a covered meal dish to visitors, it was whatever luck of the pot they were given to eat. These days it's come more to mean a gathering where people bring what they have and share with others in a social context.

Oh. [ well that sounds interesting. ] Are kids allowed to go to these things?

[teratologist]

Not only allowed but encouraged.

[minicaptain]

Will there be a lot of Earth foods?

[ hey, she's still learning about earth okay. ]

[teratologist]

I would hope so, I plan on making some of my favorites.

[minicaptain]

Okay! I'll come. I want to learn everything I can about Earth.

[ if voyager is going to eventually land there, she wants to know what she'll be getting into. ]

I would love to have you there, I assume we'll have much to discuss with the others gone on the expedition.

I think if we are all to share the same circumstances, we can at least make the best of it.

It might be a welcome change from worry. [Daughter runs off on the expedition, son goes to take care of her. You know how it is.] I do not believe we have met. Might I ask the name of our hostess?

[She knows it exactly, though her's is daughter and lover.]

What is a pot luck, though? Is it a special human custom I need to know anything about?

Glub?

Uh, yes it is. Rather a sort of jumbled celebration of being together marked by whatever foods anyone brings at the time.
