You're probably going to be hearing a lot of chatter over the journals over this, but I figure some of you could use the info. So, listen up, because this might be important.

As far as I can tell, there's just the two ships - the Lewis and Clark and the Event Horizon. According to the messages in here, this vessel was sent out to rescue the Event Horizon. That's you guys in the big ship over there. It also says here that the Event Horizon is a scientific vessel and has something called a gravity core, which generates a black hole in order to makes jumps through space.

I'm not going to pretend I'm a scientist, so I don't know how it works or if it's even possible, but something like that can't be safe. And if that ship went through enough trauma to need a rescue, then who knows what shape it's in.

My point is, whatever the gravity core is, my advice is to steer clear.

Judging from the looks of some of the decor, I would assume this is the Event Horizon. As far as the structure is concerned, the thing seems to be in fine enough shape. It doesn't seem to be of any risk.

[What caused the aforementioned 'decor' on the other hand, is a whole different concern entirely. He'll scoff.]

It's kind of you to send that warning, but it would help if we had any idea what the 'Gravity Core' was.

You guys have more information over there than we do then. Guess whoever left the information thought it would have been too much to give you guys a picture of the thing. [Granted, he has an idea of what it COULD be, but he's not coming to any conclusions yet.]

If you guys get any new information, you'll give us an updated sitrep, won't you?

Thank you, Gren. I... know something similar, though on a much, much, much smaller scale. It doesn't sound safe on a scale of this magnitude, no.

It doesn't exist in my world, that's for sure. What do you know about it?

In the Facility I was being tested in, they were working on a device which would make a man-sized portal through space, but not to this magnitude at all. Like you could put one portal in one room and another in another room and walk in one to come out the other. But this is not like hopping dimensions!

No, but that's pretty incredible sounding anyway.

It was. That's why I have the boots, because you could put one floor on the ceiling, and another on the floor, we'll say, and you could step into the floor portal and fall out of the ceiling.

Sounds exciting but dangerous. Though I guess some people like that kind of thing.

It was... But GLaDOS did always care more about her test objects...their equipment and such... than they did the actual test subjects.

I'm not good with the technical aspects, but they're supposed to be kind of...well, holes in space. They have so much gravity that not even light can escape them. And no, generally not a good thing.

No, something that devours even light... that's rather decidedly not good.

Some people think they might be more like tunnels, than can take you places, and maybe that's what it's supposed to do, but it's kind of a crazy theory if you ask me.

I'm not usually surprised by what people think is a good idea, but this one gets me a little, that's for sure.

Nobody I know of, at least in my timeline. Not that the Astral Gates are foolproof either.
