EVENT HORIZON - DAY THREE

[Well, things sure aren't fun for you guys right now, are they? And to make matters worse, some of you have become completely corrupted by the ship, and you've got some crazy new ideas in your heads.

Anyone not corrupted isn't doing that hot either. Not only do you have to deal with your new crazy-face buddies, but you have to deal with your own terrible hallucinations coming at you when you least expect them, and they want you to do terrible, awful things]

Nothing is wrong with me.

[Muraki moved his hand, flashing a scalpel in front of Danny's face. Calmly, he tapped the flat of it under the boy's chin]

You have to recognize what I do. That this ship is our path to truth and power. Tell me -- what it was you were trying to get away from? Could it be that you know if your heart that that is what you were really meant to be?

[Danny tries to lift his chin away from the scalpel. As much as he is trying to keep a brave face on this, his fear still shows clearly. This was exactly what he had been most afraid of since the first day he arrived in the castle. Since he discovered that he could no longer lie.]

That's none of your business! And I won't ever turn into-

[But before he can finish Danny see his parents coming into the room. He lashes out with his feet at Muraki even as he starts to shout for them.]

Mom! Dad! Help me!

[His mother just smiles cheerfully at him.]

Don't you worry about a thing, sweetie! It'll all be over in a few minutes. And afterwards we can just rip you apart molecule by molecule and experiment on the remains! Won't that be fun?

[His father leans over and beams at him equally cheerfully.]

That's right Danny boy! I know just the thing to do to putrid evil sacks of ectoplasm! It's all to stop you from turning evil, you know.

But you don't need to worry about a thing. After all, ghost don't have feelings. They can't feel pain.

[Danny jerks back and flinches at the words only he can hear.]

No! You have to understand! I'm not a full ghost! I'm still Danny! I'm still alive! You can't do this!

[madetosin]

[He takes a hit or two before he reacts to pin Danny's legs with a vaguely annoyed snarl. He of course cannot hear what Danny hears, but what he does hear both confuses and intrigues him]

Half a ghost? Both alive and dead? How?

[schrodingersghost]

[Danny refocuses at him and glares as he tries to use both legs to kick at him again.]

None of your business, fruitloop.

[madetosin]

[Fed up with this resistance, Muraki frowned and without the slightest warning, jabbed the scalpel downward into the flesh of his thigh]

You'll find it's better to answer my questions.

[And Danny loses all of his bravado as he screams at the sudden park. All of his thoughts scatter, and he can't manage to do anything but endure. Finally he manages to answer in a hoarse voice.]

That is not going to happen.

[Only it would. He knew very well that he had lost his ability to lie. If this guy asked the right questions he would have to answer.]

[madetosin]

[Muraki, unaware of this caveat, is displeased by the resistance. He twists the blade just slightly, to get Danny's attention]

Did you know the femoral artery is the second largest blood vessel in the human body? A single cut to it can kill in anywhere from thirty seconds to three minutes.

[Danny grits his teeth at the sharp pain from the knife.]

G-Good for you. Get an a plus in anatomy?

[madetosin]

[Oh, that was the wrong thing to say. But Muraki doesn't even appear angry. He pulls the knife out and drops it back into his pocket]

Actually...

[He reaches up to grab Danny's lower arm] ...Yes

[And suddenly he strikes, using the wall and his hand as leverage, his other hand slams hard against the bone of the arm where it was weakest, snapping it with a sickening crack. It was sure to be a jagged break too. Painful.]

[Danny screams. Even with all of his experience fighting as a ghost, he had never felt anything even close to this before. It was worse than being electrocuted, worse than being hit by ectoblasts or slammed into buildings. All he can feel and think about is the pain.]

[madetosin]

[For a moment he only laughed, amused as much by the lack of retort and the pain itself. He gripped the arm with one hand and squeezed slightly]

Now, tell me what I want to know, boy, and you'll get to keep this bone inside your arm. What do you mean by part ghost?

[schrodingersghost]

[Danny pales as the grip on his broken arm pushes him to the edge of unconsciousness. For a few seconds he gasps for air without being to say anything. At last he hoarsely mutters a few words, like each one was being dragged from his mouth. Literally, as his loss forces him to tell the truth.]

N-not part. Half. Something in between human and ghost.

[madetosin]

[He doesn't quite let go, but loosens his grip quite a bit, having made what he believes is his point and not the application of some other magic. His other hand lightly cups Danny's jaw]

How? What are you? Shinigami? Something else?

[schrodingersghost]

[Danny tries to twist his face away.]

I don't know, okay! They call me a halfa.

[madetosin]

Both descriptive and completely unhelpful. [He releases his grip on the arm and grips Danny by the hair instead, twisting his face forward again.]

And look at people when they speak to you...

[Danny glares at him with everything he has left. It makes for a rather pathetic display, considering he is only conscious through sheer stubbornness by this point.]

Like you're giving me a choice.

And what I am is none of your business!

[madetosin]

[He grins, though it's an expression more of malice than actual glee]

I suppose it isn't. We will all be changed once the gateway opens.

[schrodingersghost]

That is not going to happen! [Danny had no clue how to stop it, but he refused to believe that this ship would win.]

[madetosin]

And what are you going to stop it?

[schrodingersghost]

I don't know! Something! And even if I can't get out of here someone else will stop it!
