7th Ideal Sephira: Recovery

[Dextera's handwriting is...messier than usual, but that's what happens when you're in pain. Fluids did wonders in helping with his regeneration when it was slow but it didn't do anything else besides that.

however that's a different topic all together and one he's going to avoid for the moment. or forever. probably the latter.]

[it's very rare for Dextera to use the words "I need" but he truly does right now.]

Are you certain?

Yes. I can't do anything good right now until I'm fixed.

Forgive me if I don't find that comforting.

[Dextera writes out something that looks like it would have been "I'm sorry" before scratching it out.]

Shouldn't have to deal with it. It's my fault so I'll fix it.

[that's how it went every time anyways. his fault, up to him to fix it, repeat.]

How is it your fault? What did you do?

[there's a bit of a whining noise on the other end of the journal before Dextera answers. his handwriting is more wobbly too.]

I should have listened to them. They said not to go crazy and I did. A lot of bad things happened and I don't understand it.

[it doesn't make a whole lot of sense but he should have seen it coming. insanity was a subject Dextera knew quite well.]

[Having been forced into madness once, however, this sparks nothing but anger in Felix.]

Stop that right now. Insanity is never a choice, do you hear me? Never.

[he honestly would understand the anger if he knew why Felix was angry and they were talking about a different subject all together. when it came to the insanity he knew, Dextera knew there was a choice. the humans of his world became Meta-Beings by choice after all.]

It is. I could have listened to her or my brother. 'Don't go crazy'. Shouldn't have been that hard not to listen.

[This just sounds like something someone has fed Dextera (and he has a vague idea of who that someone might be).]

That wasn't your world.

[but whatever he means by that might go unanswered for a bit since he just shut the journal on you. this was getting into a subject Dextera didn't want to know the answer too.]

[There's one thing Felix hates is not getting the last word, along with the very real concern over what might be wrong with the boy. A trip down to his room quickly confirms that the door is sealed. Happily, he knows just the person to help him with this.

Sometime later, with Mildmay in tow, Felix is back at the door, knocking sharply]

Dextera, I will give you one more chance to open up this door before I open it for you.

[Mildmay, for his part, is standing silently off to the side, like the hired help should. Kethe, he hates being used like this. This better be good, Felix.]

[He gives Felix a significant look. You ain't gonna open nothing, big brother.]

[welp.

there's the sound akin to a dog's squeaky chew toy being stepped on, a few things being dropped on the ground and something being slammed on...something but no door being opened.

yeah no, he's not letting you in Felix. not by his choice, anyways, since you brought help. lucky for both of you he hasn't gotten around to fixing up his door with traps so he didn't have to worry about this sort of thing.

but right now it's completely safe, save for the fact that behind the door is someone who tends to make stupid decisions. best get inside before Dextera makes up his mind on what he's going to do to get out of this.]

[He gives Mildmay a look right back that says He doesn't have to know that. It was less likely he'd open it with a stranger there, but Mildmay was here for what turns out to be the likely case it wouldn't work anyway. A warning at least was called for.

He can explain why this is important later. What they've been through combined probably doesn't compare to what he's heard and seen of Dextera's world, and it concerns to him to no end that something seemed to have finally pushed him over the edge. He needs to be sure the boy is okay.]

Do it.

[Mildmay just shrugs, and pulls out a hairpin. He closes his eyes, and leans toward the lock, setting his ear near the lock, and listens to the inner workings of the machinery. Old habits, yadda yadda.]

[And, eventually, the door opens with a click. Mildmay stands out of the way. After you, Felix.]

[when the door clicks open there's the uncomfortable sound of flesh being eaten and the smell of smoke. luckily enough, nothing comes at either Felix or Mildmay. wherever the mute's mind was at this point he still knew enough not to try and hurt them.

the room was a mess and if it wasn't for the smoke you could probably smell blood. Dextera did indeed know how not to bleed to death but his methods were not good for himself and pushing his regeneration when he wasn't healthy was just as bad.

the window was open and yes, he had thought about jumping, height be dammed. but he didn't and Dextera was currently sitting in a corner of the room, curled up on himself. his good arm had flames running up and down it, thanks to one of the Parasites he had, and he was just watching the door.

he was hoping this would be enough to keep Felix away from him. Dextera didn't want to deal with this, he just wanted everyone gone...]

[For the moment the tactic is successful. Felix gets no more than a step or two inside before his back is rather suddenly hitting the door before he remembers moving, his mouth going dry. He vaguely remembers Dextera sharing his abilities with him, but he'd never seen any of them function, so he can't be sure that is what is happening right now, beyond the fact that Dextera isn't trying to fight the flames away.]

Blessed saints...Dextera...what are you doing...?

[Mildmay, meanwhile, watches events unfold in mute horror. What the fuck did you get yourself into, Felix. Who the hell is this guy? He'd intended to be faintly snarky about it, but the scene is just too strange-- and, frankly, upsetting-- for him to be anything but deeply unnerved.]

[he'll probably be sorry about this later but right now Dextera wasn't in his right mind and didn't care.

it doesn't seem so bad though. the fire, at any rate. one with an observant eye might notice that while it has eaten away at the sleeve of Dextera's coat, it hasn't burned him or anything else. no, what's probably more worrying is the amount of blood on his clothes. Dextera had changed but it seemed to have been pointless. oh well at least it sort of hid exactly how damaged he was for the moment.

Mildmay has Dextera's attention for a minute - new person, who was he? - before his eyes were back on Felix. pointing at the man and then at the door, the message is hopefully clear: get out.

but his hand is shaking and Dextera doesn't look angry, just scared and in pain. even the flames were flickering out slowly. all of this just simply seems to be a bluff. whether or not you call him out on it, however, is up to you.]

[Two things stop Felix from turning and running out right then are there. The first is the fact that his brother is watching and he needs to at least look like he's in control of this situation, though he so clearly is not. The second is the look on Dextera's face. He can't even begin to understand what might have happened, but he knows that look from having worn it once or twice himself. He promised he would look after this boy once, after all.

He edges around the room, still keeping his distance yet getting closer]

Stop it. Stop it right now.

[It's as much bluff as Dextera's, the sternness of his tone betrayed by the tremor in his voice. He's not sure what he'll do if he doesn't stop, but he just knows he has to try]

[Mildmay... watches. This all feels like he walked in on the end of a gangbang gone wrong, except it's magic, so there's double nothing Mildmay can do about it. He stands back, feeling small and awkward and a little horrified at what he's watching, at what he has to watch.]

[the flames flare slightly at Felix's voice but die down soon after. he didn't have the energy to keep feeding the Parasite and Dextera couldn't share between keeping the flames going and his regeneration at the same time. a flimsy shield but the mute wanted to live right now so...

with one last crackle the fire disappears and Dextera curls up even tighter, pressing his back against the wall. he doesn't look at either of them and wishes they could read his mind and just leave him alone, go away go away...]

[He'll be sorry for dragging his brother into this later, maybe, but it helps that he's here.

Felix moves closer, wary but faintly sure Dextera would never actually hurt him, and kneels at his side. He doesn't touch the boy. Not yet.]

Why are you doing this to yourself? You should...you should be in the clinic.
