[Browsing through the journals had become something of a ritual for Catelyn. It paid to be well informed, after all, and one never knew what one would find. Today, however, is a little different than most days. Today, she finds herself speaking what she would ordinarily only think- with the journal still open.]

It is amusing to see you all panic over a week of childcare- something every woman will face a thousand times over. And such a simple week it was. How many of you faced broken bones, fever, or pox? What would you have done, I wonder?

[A pause]

I had no intention of voicing those thoughts. [Or those. Crap.]

Some of the panic is over impossibility. Two males with a child that apparently resembles them both.

It is all impossible. This entire place is impossible. It seems strange to panic over it now.

You must be a sheltered child. [OOPS. That was rude.] I apologize; that was impolite to say. It is an illness, one that could easily kill a young child.

Cheria was sick when she was a child. I wonder if she had pox?

I seem to lack the ability to hold my tongue. Thank the gods I am not in Westeros; it would be a quick way to lose my head. [THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO COME OUT EITHER.]

What the hell is a pox?

Do you often curse at perfect strangers? [Ffff, normally, she'd just roll her eyes too.] How does a man full grown not know of the pox?

Uh...yeah. You should hear me talk to people I actually know.

Maybe we don't have whatever 'the pox' is where I'm from. Since you haven't explained what it is I can't tell you.

You have to admit, it must have been alarming for many who had never had a child in their care before. They did not have nine months of preparation as a woman might, a knowledge it is coming. For many they just appeared.

_{[ He had three years now under his belt, and he loved his Castle-born son, sad to have seen him go again. ]}

It is strange to think that there are so many who had not had a child in their care before. I was not over twenty when I had my Robb and I am scarcely unusual.

I have come to understand that in other worlds, more advanced ones, children come later in life. For myself, I had no wife back home and no younger siblings, so no children were ever given to my care. I met the children of my lords and ladies and generals, of course, but never any of my own til the Castle.

You have to give them so credit for making it through a week with a babe at all, especially when they appeared from nowhere.

I certainly was not expecting to be gifted with a little boy with more magic than I could fathom.

My son and youngest daughter should not be far, protective as they have become. Why? [Even that's lacking her usual pleasantries. Ugh. At least it's not horrifically rude.]

I don't think many people'll have to suffer their kids having pox... Though I suppose it depends on what you mean by pox.

Is disease so rare in other worlds? Two have know asked me what pox is and you ask what I mean by it. In Westeros, there is not a soul who has not known a person stricken by it.

[Yes, she remembers. She just also happens to currently be frustrated by time-period issues.]
