Matrix 02 ~ [Dictated]

[There's a rustling as someone flips open a journal, before a voice comes from it.]

Whilst the castle's décor may seem rather vintage, I'm lead to believe that there may be some people out there that can help me.

[There's a clearing of his throat.]

I'm looking for someone who can build holographic emitters, capable of projecting a complex holo-matrix. Maybe even link them into the computer network here. While it is nice to be able to go out and about with my Mobile Emitter, past experiences show that the longer I stay activated, the more likely my matrix will de-stabilise and, unfortunately, I doubt anyone here can help recompile a complicated program such as myself. [Yes. He's so full of himself when he says that.] Anyone who can help would be most appreciated.

I would like to offer my services. I daresay I am one of the more knowledgeable in the field of medicine, given that I have access to the entire medical database of the United Federation of Planets. I'm sure my expertise would be welcome.

As for my experience, as I'm sure you're bound to ask, I have operated as the Chief Medical Officer on board the Federation Starship USS Voyager for the past seven years, I have access to over five million surgical proceedures, and I have a delightful singing voice.

The Federation doesn't charge for medical services. If you want extortionate prices, I would speak to the Ferengi Alliance.

[He's even programmed to slam other groups, that's pretty impressive. But Spike is the kind of guy who would go to a veterinarian just to keep his visits off the record, so seeing a medic that can probably name everyone he's ever seen isn't going to be his first option. Still, it's good to know.]

I'll remember that next time I'm in the clinic.

Be sure you do. Luckily, we don't seem to have any Ferengi doctors present.

You never know when that will change. They bring in all types.

Then I hope people will make the right choice and not be scammed when there is one of the best doctors in Starfleet right here.

You might have more luck if you left out the part about being a program.

If they do not wish to be treated because of what I am, then I can't force them. That would be unprofessional.

And that's against your programming?

I'm programmed to deliver medical assistance to those who require it. In order to save a life, I may go against someone's wishes, unless there's an ethical reason. If there isn't a life-threatening situation, and my patient does not wish me to treat it, who am I to force it on them.

My ethical subroutines are programmed to be the highest standard.

They really thought of everything.

The only flaw was my inter-personal subroutines were rather lacking when I was first activated. But I was only designed as a temporary medical supplement to a ship's crew.

Self-awareness is a key aspect of my program. I have to be able to learn things and adapt. One never knows when one may end up on the other end of the galaxy

It already has. I've made significant progress over the past seven years, as well as several improvements to my program.

What kind of improvements?

Improvements to my interpersonal skills, my hobbies, a social life... All part of the learning process.

With me being restricted to my mobile emitter for the time being, I need... someone I can trust to re-activate my program when I need to be deactivated.

You don't need to, but I would prefer it if you did. Having my emitter in the hands of someone I know I can trust would make me feel a lot easier.

Nevertheless, you never know what one might pick up in an alternate dimension. And I like to keep my records up-to-date. Ensuring your medical record is in order is the duty of any good Starfleet Officer.
