[Crowley hasn't used his journal since before the Event Horizon mess. He's still living in the Nines, giving South time to deal with everything, assuming she ever can. But he's begun to miss the contact of those he cares about. He's even missed just...talking to people.

He doesn't exactly feel like expressing this, so he'll settle for being vague and annoying instead. He offers no greeting, no explanation for his absence. Just straight to the point.]

Was it? [His tone is vague.] It is a rather well known bit of wisdom in my world. Among those who yet have dealings with the old ways, that is.

Ahh but not everyone has had such dealings. They have to just stumble through life, guessing.

And that is as it should be, I think. It is very rare now, in my world, for such dealings to happen. Magic has been half-forgotten already. Nearly every person in the world would say that all the works and creatures of magic are nothing more than stories to tell children. Folktales and dreams and half-remembered legends.

As unfortunate as it is, time moves on. People believe only what they understand in their own experience, and that leaves little room for creatures of magic.

And that, too, is as it should be. In my own world the time of magic is over. It is time for humans to decide on their own destinies, whether they be for good or ill.

Can't agree more. Humans do so much better if they're just left to their own devices.

I don't know if it is better, but it is right.

Trust me, I've seen them get poked and prodded in the direction we want them to go. Nothing good comes of it, in fact they usually end up having psychotic breakdowns and topping themselves.

Manipulating humans like that, that was what the Dark did.

Yeah? The good side tend to do it, too.

[lightbranded]

I am speaking of my world, of course. But in the world I know, it has never been as simple as the good side or the bad side. The Dark can be kind, even as the Light can be cruel. In seeming, of course. At its heart the Dark was a great dark pit as deep as the universe even as the Light was a cold flame that burned.

And for us of the Light, our only purpose was to bring an end to any manipulations of the hearts of men. It was our task to oppose the Dark, so that whatever future humans chose, whether it be for good or ill. That whatever future they chose, it should be their decision alone. It was not for us to interfere.

Hmmm it's muc the same for us. There can be true evil in the light and honest goodness in the dark. Everything is shades of grey, at the end of it all.
