[Hook's been in the castle a while now, and he hasn't started liking it any better. He feels cramped, pent-up, and like he ought to be at sea. He's decked out his room in the castle to look like his cabin on the Jolly Roger, but it isn't the same. The floor doesn't move. It's hardly the worst place he's ever been, but it's hardly the best, either.]

This so-called "Dead Zone." What's out there? How much of it has been explored?

[If he has to be stuck on land, the least he can do is explore what land there is. Especially since apparently there's water there.]

[oh hey, it's you again. See, Percy kept telling them that report had too many words]

We've explored a lot. I already told you about the shore at Lastlook. There's also a place called Lente's Point, and Terre Haute where we just were for the last one. There's another castle, too, called Libet. Except nobody's living there anymore.

And there are some really weird animals. Like the talking giraffes and spiders, and these creepy eyeless buffalo, and the sheep with six legs. The horses are blue, which is pretty cool.

Strange land. [Though not, he thinks, much stranger than Neverland.] Do these beasties ever come here?

[they've already been to Wonderland, so hey-- they might just go to Neverland some day]

There's a few of them in the stables: one of the buffalos and one of the sheep. I think some crazy person even brought back one of the killer birds we saw at Lastlook. I remember the spiders invading the castle a few years ago but they didn't stick around.

More people just need to learn how, that's all.

Why not? I'm already giving out horseback-riding lessons. If they want to learn how to sword-fight, I'm willing to teach them.

If the map of just the continent is anything to go by, then not much, relatively speaking. So there's plenty left to discover out there! Is there anything in particular you're itching to find, sir?

Hmmm...well, if I remember correctly, there should be a lake a ways northeast from here, at least, and then if you continue that way, there's a bit of land, and then what looks to be some sort of long inlet that leads to the sea in the north. Other than that, you'd have to go on land in other ways, but a lake is better than nothing I suppose.

Or you could always go into town, if you'd rather a quick trip.

Shops and townspeople, mostly. It's probably still getting back up to snuff, but there should be something there to do.

Not a lot from what I heard. There was just an expedition there a while back, and there were this huge bug monsters!

Huge bug monsters. Did those on the expedition fight them?

Yeah. But they say we lose our powers or any high-tech stuff stop working once you get to the Dead Zone. But they brought weapons, and thank god no one was seriously hurt!

That doesn't worry me. I've got no weapons or... 'high tech.' [He only vaguely recognizes the term, too.]

Oh, I've got weapons. But only the normal sort. Nothing magical or scientific.
