Team Harding: Day One

[By now you should have already woken up to your surroundings. Your camp is near a clifface, overlooking the sea. Nearby are long, metallic trailers, full of hi-tech tracking equipment and enough space to sleep four people. Each has a kitchen and a bathroom, too. In the distance, is the jungle, but it seems largely quiet today]

And now you know it's me. [He stands on his hind feet, sniffing the air] Where are we?

No clue. It looks like a jungle. And these trailers look kind of governmenty. But they could be from a really extreme scientist too.

[thatrabbitsdynamite]

Maybe. [He sniffs the air again] I don't like the smell of this place. It reminds me of something, but I can't put my paw on what.

Is that a good something or a bad something? Or a quick lets get out of here before we all die something?

Probably that last one.

Great. Somehow it figures.

Would you expect anything less with Paradisa?

...Not really. The more time I spend here the more I think it must be like a building version of Spectra.

A...what now?

A ghost I knew back home. She pretended to be a school counselor and ate misery. And when kids weren't miserable enough for her? She poked away at their self esteem until they were.

[He looks dark, for a moment]

That sounds familiar.

What, you have something like that in your world too?

We have a man...a thing that lives on fear. You'd probably know him as a Boogeyman.

The boogeyman ghost? [Danny blinks, suddenly vaguely remembering long nights with his Dad hunting it. They'd camped out in his room all night, as his Dad showed off weapon after weapon and explaining exactly what each one would do to any ghost who tried to sneak into a Fenton's room. It must have been when he was just a little kid, before he stopped believing in ghosts.

Well, stopped believing in ghosts other than the ones that possessed his Mom's cooking. But that was just extra energy from the ecto-cooker.]

Yeah, I've heard of it.

He's not a ghost. He's... he was a man, once, before he got consumed by darkness. Now, well just think of him as a reverse Guardian.

[schrodingersghost]

[Danny shrugs.]

He was in Dad's stories. Of course everything is a ghost in Dad's stories. Except Santa.

Why? What does he want?

Pitch? He wants to shroud the world in an eternal nightmare.

[Bunny hesitates for a moment]

When he was at the height of his power, there was a great war. He destroyed a lot of planets.

[schrodingersghost]

[Danny is actually silent for a moment.]

So.... a major bad news fruitloop.

[A pause, as Danny remembers Pariah Dark. His next words are quiet, but with determination behind them.]

If he shows up here, let me know. I'll help.

He is. He never...chose this life, but it doesn't excuse him for everything he's done.

[As he's come to expect of the kids here. Who guards the Guardians?]

We'll appreciate that.

[schrodingersghost]

[He shrugs.]

Sounds like a guy anyone would want to stop.

[thatrabbitsdynamite]

But not everyone has the power to do it.

[schrodingersghost]

No. But that means if we do have the power to protect people, we have to do it. Because if we don't do it, who will?

[thatrabbitsdynamite]

Exactly. We need to stand up, even if it's hard, even if we might just want to hide away. Because it's what's right.

[schrodingersghost]

Yeah... and it isn't really something you can stop doing. If someone needs help, I cant just ignore them.

[thatrabbitsdynamite]

You'd make a really good Guardian, you know.
