Team Harding: Day One

[By now you should have already woken up to your surroundings. Your camp is near a clifface, overlooking the sea. Nearby are long, metallic trailers, full of hi-tech tracking equipment and enough space to sleep four people. Each has a kitchen and a bathroom, too. In the distance, is the jungle, but it seems largely quiet today]

[Calvin nods approvingly. Here's a kid who knows how to have fun obviously. ]

Do you think there are more somewhere else?

I hope so! I've never seen one before now. What are these ones called?

Stegosaurus. They're herbivores but if they feel threatened they can use their tail like a mace.

[findatree]

How close do you think we can get to one of them?

[i_demand_euphoria]

Depends.

[findatree]

Let's just get as close as we can without bothering them.

How fond are you of your head?

[findatree]

I've got a helmet. [because that will protect him from every conceivable injury]

[i_demand_euphoria]

[Calvin is about to point out that a bike helmet is going to do bubkis against a dinosaur but he just shrugs instead.]

Let's see if we can ride one.

[findatree]

Good idea! We'll have to get on when they've stopped to eat.

[i_demand_euphoria]

[A sigh.] They'll probably be eating for awhile.

[findatree]

That's perfect! Then we can get settled in before they start moving.

Which one do you want then?

[findatree]

That one! [he just points to one at random. Hey, they rode giraffes so why not?]

[i_demand_euphoria]

[Yeah Calvin heard about the giraffes and thought that was awesome.] Okay, I'll take the one next to it.

[findatree]

Okay! [how are these two children creeping up on stegosauruses and not being noticed by the adults? Welp, this is only going to end badly]

[i_demand_euphoria]

[This is going to end so poorly. Calvin is used to sneaking around doing things he's not supposed to, so he's actually pretty stealthy creeping up on his chosen dino-ride.]

... you know, from behind the tail spikes almost look like stairs, don't they? Maybe that's how you get up.

[Because obviously dinosaurs were meant to be ridden.]

[and Ted is equally accustomed to doing things like this without adult supervision. The steg he chose isn't even paying attention to the boys]

So what we do is grab the spikes as we climb, so even when the dinosaur starts moving we'll have something to keep us steady.

[CALVIN LIKES THE WAY YOU THINK TED.]

And that way they can't cave our heads in with their tails either because we'll be on their tails.

[But yeah, those stego's are paying the boys absolutely no minds. Calvin and Ted are smaller than the baby, what should they care?]

[Ted gets ready to grab onto the first spike and start his climb up] See you at the top!

[Oh it is on Ted. Calvin flings himself at the stegosaurus' tail landing with a thud that probably feels like a fly landing on the giant dinosaur. Hand over hand he makes his way up the back of the dinosaur.]

[Ted makes it maybe halfway up the tail when his steg starts to move. He grips onto the spike tightly, and then decides since it's already thick enough he'll just sit here and ride the dinosaur's tail for a while]

[Weak man. Calvin is climbing this stegosaurus like it's mount Everest. It doesn't hurt that Calvin's dino is probably the most lazy thing in the world and hasn't moved an inch since this exercise began. Either that or Calvin is giving it a really nice back scratch and it doesn't want to interrupt him.]

[very steadily Ted rises to his feet again. The steg is still moving, but it's slow. Slow enough that he can start working his way up again. While the dinosaur is moving]

[Calvin is somewhere over his dinosaur's back legs by now. It's slow going. These things are huge and Calvin is not.]

This is so cool. Too bad nobody's around with a camera.
