Team Tembo: Day one

[By now you should have already woken up to your surroundings. Your camp is in the jungle, surrounded by tents, vehicles and cages full of dinosaurs. Wander around, check out the armoury, wonder why there are a bunch of dinosaurs in cages, or get yourself a tent]

Used to weird stuff. Dinosaurs are new, though.

Is it always the middle of the night?

[hellofist]

[And now a laugh, because that's actually funny and she hadn't realized it until now.]

Yeah. Most of the time. Have you met... superheroes, in Paradisa?

[ensorceler]

[ She understands the words super and hero, of course, but the term itself gets a strange look. ]

I have seen heroic efforts, if that is what you mean to say.

[ But none that were so impressive she would call a 'super hero'. ]

[hellofist]

In my world, there's people... who fight crime. Happens at night, mostly. Called superheroes, there.

[ensorceler]

You speak of vigilantes. You are one?

[ Why else would she bring it up? ]

[hellofist]

Yep. Batgirl.

[ensorceler]

[ Anne's lips press together and twist, in an attempt not to outright laugh in the face of the girl who just loaned her clothing. She has heard some pretty stupid names since arriving here. ]

...Because of the night, I presume?

[hellofist]

[Hey, she just inherited the name, laugh all you want Anne.]

Because of Batman. Not really sure... why he picked it.

[ensorceler]

[ What? They're a cult? ]

You are not a girl at all, but a woman, and I do not see a bat that lurks and frightens, but a sparrow that hops and brings cheer. Moineau noir.

[hellofist]

Sparrowwoman sounds funny. But, we wear costumes. Masks, to... hide our faces. Can show you, when we... go back to castle. Will make sense, then.

[The new language is something that gets her attention, though.]

What's that mean?

[ensorceler]

It is black sparrow.

[ She raises an eyebrow. Well yes, sparrow woman sounds stupid, but she thinks any alias like that is stupid. ]

Masques and costumes? Mayhap you attended the feast of May Day, then. Yet I saw no girls dressed as bats.

[hellofist]

My mask was one. Made of gold. Black and gold dress, those are... my colors.

I saw you, there. You looked beautiful.

[ensorceler]

[ She smiles as is appropriate for such a compliment, but it's shallow. This type of conversation is distracting, but it's only too easy for her to wilt and go glassy-eyed at the slightest thing. And now she regrets mentioning the masquerade, in hindsight. ]

You are too kind, and I am sorry I did not see what sounds to be a splendid costume. Mayhap when we return, as you said. If we are to survive this event.

[hellofist]

We will.

[Anne might not be a fighter, but Cass can tell she's smart, and she's not huddling somewhere crying, she's thinking forward. These are all good signs of someone who won't just give up.]

There were guns. Can you shoot?

[ensorceler]

[ Anne promptly shakes her head. ]

And I suspect the guns you speak of differ greatly from what I know of. They are small? [ She's only seen modern pistols. ]

[hellofist]

Some are. Some are higher caliber- bigger bullets, for bigger... targets.

[She looks back up at the dinosaur in the cage, watching it shuffle and shift its weight and then just stop, fall still again. It can't move to get out and the hopelessness it's showing makes her feel a bit lost too.

Still, there are other dangers here. Better Anne know how to use a gun and not need to than be hurt.]

I can teach you. It's not hard.

[ensorceler]

[ Anne considers. This is very much out of her element, and even if she is a forward thinker for her time, some things are still ingrained and hard to shake. But she would at least like to have a weapon for defense, considering they're surrounded by beasts for who knows what? ]

It seems that every woman I meet here must fight and use a gun. I suppose I had best learn, then, lest I fall behind.
