There's the distinct metallic hiss of scissors over the journal, late Sunday evening. Alex is sitting on a blanket out on the castle grounds, an earbud playing faintly-audible rock music in one ear, and a pair of scissors in her hand; she's cutting her hair, dark locks falling onto the grass as she chops it right up to her neck.]

You know, it's stupid how we freak out over how long we've all been here, and then forget the most stupidly obvious dates. Like birthdays.

[Snip. Snip.]

I guess I'm nineteen now, or something. Glad I forgot, or that whole dinosaur bullcrap would have been the worst birthday present ever. And that's counting the pirate thing a couple years back.

[She stops what she's doing to hold up her mirrors, trying to catch a look at the back of her hand. Anyone walking past who would like to offer an extra hand - or just a conversation - would be sneered at but much appreciated.]

[London just so happens to be out and about that evening (she figured it was about time Ivanna needed a walk) when she spots the young wizard.]

[London's dog stops at the edge of Alex's blanket, sniffing curiously.]

[She pauses for a moment, not sure whether to make fun of him or humor him. She decides to start of her nineteenth year with a compromise between the two. Ahhh, maturity. Maybe.]

What, you somehow missed the whole tooth and claw parade? Or were you on the cruise ship?

My majority? What, is that like "legal drinking age" or something?

[Alex almost looks pleased to see London - it's been awhile, and she's missed her special brand of weirdness.]

What, like I'd want to pay for some bottle-blonde, gum-chewing chick to tell me I should take better care of my split-ends? Pass.

It means being an adult, where I come from - able to take on proper responsibilities.

[She lets out a loud cackle of a laugh.]

Proper responsibilities? Ha, I don't think I've ever even remembered to take out the trash on my own.

So what did you do back home then? Were you a noble?

I was a wizard working in a sandwich shop, if that counts as "noble".

A wizard? So you can use magic then?

[She loudly pops the "p".]

Ah, I see. I had not seen you up in the Chimera headquarters, but I suppose there are others who do not wish the company of us peacocks.

[Raising an eyebrow at the journal.]

I went by there once. I guess group activities aren't really my forte. I'm more of a moral ambiguity kind of girl.

[She's not, she just likes to tell herself that she is. Less work that way.]

I cannot say it is much group work. I usually work alone in my work room, to be honest, but sometimes we debate. Though not of late, with the Castle being so busy throwing us about between worlds.

We don't talk about how late my replies are also DICTATED

What cruise ship? I showed up here a couple of days ago.

[Second person she's talked to who missed the whole dino thing, and she's getting jealous.]

A bunch of people got stuck on this cruise ship a couple of weeks ago, but the rest of us had to go get mauled by dinosaurs. It was really annoying.

I think the last time I was there, that weird skin stain thing was going on. Don't think there was really much of a meeting - it got a little bit interrupted.

You guys call being mauled by dinosaurs annoying? Isn't that kinda underplaying it?

Okay, so I didn't actually see anyone get mauled. More like chased. But I-D-K, after awhile here you just start to look at stuff like that and think, "Man, just get on with it so I can get back to the pool", you know?
